Default ZA won't reinstall after uninstall

Have been having ZA problems, so I uninstalled ZA.
It will not now reinstall since it can't launch TrueVector. To me, this implies that there are still elements of the installation that are confusing the install programme. Any ideas how to get out of the problem?

Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
Software Version:7.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

This TrueVector problem probably happend becuse you did not Properly Shut down ZoneAlarm first..ZA Menu, Overview/Preferences Un-Check "Load ZoneAlarm on Startup" and Reboot computer before Uninstalling or upgrading ZoneAlarm..Try this.. It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
1.) TrueVector (vsmon.exe) is the Main guts of ZoneAlarm Firewall protection, that is the first thing to start when you boot up your computer and the last thing to shut down when you shut down your computer in order to insure that your computer is always protected..2.) to make sure that a Hacker or Virus that has accidentally infected you computer when you Click on an Email Attachment, or Click on some Pop-up on a web-site that offers a Free Laptop or whatever and in the background also trancefers a Trojan or keyloger to your computer, becuse you have bypassed that ZA Alert pop-up or given permision to a new Game or download to open a port to the internet that Hackers can access, you have over ridden some of the protection that ZA provides. that is why TrueVector is so hard to Shut down..3.) ZoneAlarm provides a method to properly shut down trueVector, before Uninstalling ZoneAlarm, or Upgrading Zonealar.. Look in ZA Menu Overview/Preferences and Uncheck "Load ZoneAlarm on Startup." then Reboot your Computer to remove TrueVector from Memory..Probably the best is to have a full manual remove of ZASS and reinstall.

Please note that ZASS does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, ad-aware, spybotS&D, spyware doctor, spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you have still another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.

To troubleshoot ZASS issue is highly recommended to remove all the above and install back (if you really need to) after your ZASS works as it should. If you have not installed any of the above ensure that NO left overs are in the system (they can conflict).

First re-download the latest ZASS version here:
For XP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlFor Vista http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

Then : Remove your current ZASS from the control panel --> uninstall a program

Then follow the steps below to ensure NO ZA left over are on your system before reinstalling
The instruction are for XP, they are basically the same for VISTA (e.g. start --> VISTA search box --> and write the command)

01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
10.) Click OK

possible
.

14.) Close this window
15.) Click Start, My Computer
16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Install back..
