I've been a zonealarm firewall user for years... but getting it work on Windows Vista certainly seems like it has been a long path.
About two weeks ago, after upgrading to Vista SP1, I installed the "newest" zonealarm firewall, namely version 7.1.254.000.
You will see elsewhere in this forum, I have had trouble getting it to work with the "Webshield" component of [a v a s t] anti-virus. That issue remains unresolved.
However, there seems to be a bigger issue. When ZA is installed, whether or not [a v a s t] is installed, eventually my computer will freeze up or crash. I can't predict exactly how or why. Sometimes it is a freeze. Sometimes there is a blue screen. Sometimes things just slow down to a crawl, and then I try to restart, and the computer freezes in the log-off process. I have tried selective startups with and without many combinations of other software running. I have tried when I have disabled ALL non-standard microsoft software except ZA, but eventually, the computer will crash. With any combination of other software (or with none at all) I can seemingly leave my computer up without restarting it indefinitely. Typically, without ZA, I reboot only when some external event forces it (like a software upgrade, or a need to power down the computer to take it somewhere). But with ZA up, I am rebooting every couple of days at least, sometimes more, and most frequently I have to do a hard reset with the power button.
So I will, unfortunately, have to uninstall ZA again.
Pity. I used to love this software.
