Default Uninstalling an old version of ZASS--have questions

I want to completely remove version 5.4 of ZASS from my computer so I can replace it with something else. I really liked this version of ZASS, before they added the antispyware and switched to Kaspersky, but they won't renew my subscription anymore unless I upgrade to a newer version, which I don't really want to do.

Can I still use the New, easier uninstall instructions 2006-08-29 listed under Helpful Hints and Links to remove my old version completely so that other antivirus and firewall software won't crash and burn? Or are the current instructions mainly for the newer versions of ZA? I noticed that some things have changed since the last time I looked, and I wanted to make sure these would work for me.

Another thing I was wondering about was Windows System Restore Points. Are there ZA remnants like registry settings in there? Will they cause problems later on if I install new security software? I was thinking of setting a restore point before I tried to uninstall just in case something went horribly wrong with the computer after I removed ZA, and I needed to rollback and try again.

Yes, those are the instructions that I had been looking at. So you're saying that they work for all version of ZA. Good to know.

I would still like to know about the Windows Restore Point files, though. Will there be any conflicts with new security software if there are any ZA bits left in those? Or do the restore files not affect things unless you actually try to use them to restore back to an earlier state?

Thanks for your Reply..Then just make sure that these Files and Folders have been remove from your computer:

"Internet Logs" (windows directory)
"Zone Labs" (under your Program Files folder)
"Zonelabs" (under your Windows System32 folder)-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Here is a Simpler method of Uninstall of ZoneAlarm that worked well with ZA 6.1 and should work with ZA 5.xx

Try a clean unistall of the program then reinstall the program.....

1.) Download a Current Copy of Zone Alarm Security Suite from
ZA website in the release history section.

2.) Go into ZA Overview/Preferences and Un-Check "Load Zone Alarm on Startup"
3.) Reboot Computer to Remove Zone Alarm drivers from Memory..
4.) Temporarily shut down any other AV/AS Security programs that May Conflict with ZA Install

5..) Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
RIGHT-click on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties.
Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninstexe"
Change it to:
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean /rmlicense (add a space and then the /clean)
Click OK to save the new command line.
Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs Security
Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that pop up.
say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files and allow TrueVector to shut down.
- Reboot

Now Start again in the Safe mode and delete these files in the Windows Directory:

WINDOWS\ Internet Logs

Program Files\Zone Labs

WINDOWS\system32\ Zonelabs

Now Reboot

Using something like this Freeware CCleaner <--- http://www.ccleaner.com/download/bui...wnloading-slim
, will help do the cleanup as well on both the Hard drive and the Registry .

Now Re-a Newer version of ZA program or other Security Program..--------------------------------------------------------
