    Default Redirect error

I'm installing ZoneAlarm Firewall after a full system wipe and system restore on a Toshiba Satellite using Windows XP SP3.
zaSetup_en.exe downloaded onto the desktop like normal, and I run the .exe file like normal, and I received this error.
It asked me to choose either Vista or XP/2000 (I chose XP/2000, and clicked next)
It asked me to choose either Download and Install or Download only
    (I chose Download and Install)
Then I received the following error:
Setup was unable to find the msi package or patch'http://redirect.zonelabs.com/redirect/route?mode=1&app=inclient&date=1&dest= stub&oem=1025&prod=0&llang=en&link _id=1'.
It was a first for me to see. I tried just using Download only, and received the same error.
I copied the error as is onto notepad, but I'll give a screenshot if it would help.Any suggestions?
    Arthur.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..1.) Never Install a file as large as this 40 Plus Meg file over the internet.. ALWAYS Download ONLY and Save to your Hard drive. then Install directly from your Hard drive..it takes too long and most likely will result in a Corrupted or incomplete install..2.) the "Setup was unable to find the msi package or patch" Windows is telling you that "msi" (MicroSoft Intaller), can not filnd all the parts to the file you are installing over the Internet,so the Install of ZAFree failed..3.)There are Over 60 Million Users of ZoneAlarm world Wide.. and Very Few People ever log onto a Support Forum to say how Great the Program is, This Forum exist to help the Few Users who encounter a problem and need to be guided in the right direction..The simplest procedure is to:4.)Download the ZAFree 7.0.473installerpreferably with IE7 and no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right) (Click the Red Download Now Button)ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html

Probably the best is to have a full manual remove ofany other Firewall, and Anti-Virus..(Except Windows Firewall or Windows defender are OK)

Please note that ZA does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, AVG, ad-aware, spybotS&amp;D, Spyware Doctor, Spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you still have another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.

    5. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --&gt; Preferences tab)6. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory7. Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Here is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-ridding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. That is why some users have problems updating ZoneAlarm or any other security program..vsmon.exe/TrueVector is the first thing that loads when your computer starts to boot up, the ZA tray Icon is just a Icon that loads later in the Boot-up process..and TrueVector /vsmon.exe is the last thing to shutdown when your computer shuts down to insure that your computer is always protected..That is why " if Load ZoneAlarm on startup in not Un-checked" and computer Rebooted, Truevector will stay in Memory and will not be removed during Install or Upgrade, in fact the install may fail because Truevector in an attempt to protect your computer will think that the New Install attempt to install a new version of Truevector may be a Hacker Attempting to shut down Truevector..That is why it is very Important to use the Un-Check "Start ZA on Startup" method so that a New Upgrade Copy of TrueVector/vsmon.exe can be installed..b.) some Computer Users thinkhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/th_1what.gif that if one Firewall and anti-Virus is good, two or three different ones running at the same time must be better? http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gif

8.)- have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZoneAlarm firewall product. <HR>

**** Very Important: ****Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software Firewalls at the same time. Completely uninstall one before installing another. Use the vendor's uninstall utility or if not available, use the Windows XP add/remove software tool in the control panel.<HR>Just One, Not Two -- Never use two anti-virus products at the same time. Completely uninstall one before installing another. Use the vendor's uninstall utility or if not available, use the Windows XP add/remove software tool in the control panel. 9.) NOTE: Make sure all of the following Programs have Trusted and Internet access (2 Green Check Marks):a.) All Microsoft and Windows Programs have Green Check marks for Trusted and Internet Access..b.) Generic Host Process for win32 Services (svchost.exe) also allow Trusted Server Rights (no Internet Server Rights)c.) IE Crash Detectiond.) Internet Explorer or FireFoxe.) I have this problem too - so, agautesen, I hope you won't mind if I join in this thread

I uninstalled ZoneAlarm using the uninstall it shipped with. I then tried to re-install and got
Setup was unable to find the msi package or patch
    'http://redirect.zonelabs.com/redirect/route?mode=1&amp;app=inclient&amp;date=1&amp;dest= stub&amp;oem=1025 =0&amp;llang=en&amp;link_id=2'
ie same error message as agautesen but ending in 2 not 1

I have uninstalled Lavasoft AdAware, SpyBlaster, AVG (my sony vaio shipped with Norton but I immediately went to Norton's site to get the proper uninstaller), and checked Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are switched off . Then downloaded the Vista's ZoneAlarm 7.1.254.000.

But still getting the same error message.

    Advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Jude

http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
The other User had a problem with ZA for XP, it looks like your running Vista and not XP?You fdid not Indicate if your trying to Install the ZAFree Vista version or some other Vista version..NOTE: Please read the Entire Message before making any changes to your setup..1.) Never Install a file as large as this 40 Plus Meg file over the internet.. ALWAYS Download ONLY and Save to your Hard drive. then Install directly from your Hard drive..it takes too long and most likely will result in a Corrupted or incomplete install..2.) the "Setup was unable to find the msi package or patch" Windows is telling you that "msi" (MicroSoft Intaller), can not filnd all the parts to the file you are installing over the Internet,so the Install of ZAFree failed..3.) There are Over 60 Million Users of ZoneAlarm world Wide.. and Very Few People ever log onto a Support Forum to say how Great the Program is, This Forum exist to help the Few Users who encounter a problem and need to be guided in the right direction..The simplest procedure is to: Delete the Bad or corrupted copy of ZAFree for Vista and 4.)Download the ZAFree 7.1.254.000installer: again (preferably with IE7 and no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right) (Click the Red Download Now Button)ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

Probably the best is to have a full manual remove ofany other Firewall, and Anti-Virus..(Except Windows Firewall or Windows defender are OK)

Windows ADD/Remove or the Included Uninstall with McAfee will leave parts of McAfee behind on your hard drive that may conflict or prevent the install of ZoneAlarm..

Please note that ZA does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, AVG, ad-aware, spybotS&amp;D, Spyware Doctor, Spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you still have another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.
Then you should Clean out the Junk files, Recycle Bin and Cashe with the Free ccleaner.exe Program from the link below..http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...bar_d4191.htmlGet the New Zone Alarmfor Vista files here..ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

    ZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...ory_vista.html
    ZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...ory_vista.html
4.) if you have any other Security programs Like NAV, or Norton Internet Security Suite, or any other AV or Firewall programs, you need to uninstall them.. to be on the safe side.. Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software Firewalls at the same time. Completely uninstall one before installing another. Use the vendor's uninstall utility or if not available, use the Windows add/remove software tool in the control panel.<HR>Just One, Not Two -- Never use two Anti-virus products at the same time. ADD/Remove is not good enough, you must also go to Symantec Web site and download their "Norton_Removal_Tool.exe" to remove all traces of Symantec/Norton files that may conflict with the NEW ZA for Vista..This is just my 2 cents worth,If your having problem installing ZA Anti-Virus or ZA Security Suite and have ever uninstalleda previous installation of Norton Systemworks or Norton AntiVirus, when you use ADD/Remove to Remove any of Symantec Norton utilities, especially their Norton Anti-Virus program, they still leave lots of traces behind after the "UNINSTALL"Fortunately SYMANTEC has a Fix for this problem on the Symantec web site called "NORTON REMOVAL TOOL" that does a better job of REMOVING ALL traces of Norton Symantec files..here is the Link to the Symantec Norton Removal Tool..http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...ent&amp;seg=hmHere is the Link to McAfee Removal Tool..http://www.majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Con...ool_d5420.htmlhttp://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...64&amp;lc=1033<H5>Affected Operating Systems: </H5><UL><LI>Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional <LI>Microsoft Windows XP Professional <LI>Microsoft Windows XP Home <LI>Microsoft Windows Vista </LI>[/list]

Thank you for all your great advice.
I had to find a quick fix (and I want to avoid using a registry cleaner except as a last resource) so I have switched to **bleep**, which seems to give me no feedback in the way ZA did - but sadly
just don't have time to sort this properly

Thank you for your feedback..A few Brand-x Security programs give their users a false sense of Security by not giving you much feedback..But chances are that you may be safe, if your ISP is also Filtering Email and some Spam attacks, before they get to you..Good Luck with *Bleep* ..
