Default Uninstalling ZoneAlarm

I've tried several of the suggestions on this forum and ZoneAlarm's Customer Care page. I reinstalled ZoneAlarm using the version suitable for Vista. I added "/clean /rmlicense" to the target in the Uninstall ZoneAlarm Security Properties box. (I didn't go into Safe Mode, as I read that this may create problems after the uninstall.) No matter what I do, I get a box that says, "TrueVector Internet Monitor was not uninstalled. The uninstaller was not able to stop the TrueVector software services. This will happen if other software is using the TrueVector engine. To uninstall ZoneAlarm make sure all other TrueVector based programs have been closed." Any ideas?

Operating System:Windows Vista Home Basic
Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Here is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-ridding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. That is why some users have problems updating ZoneAlarm or any other security program..vsmon.exe/TrueVector is the first thing that loads when your computer starts to boot up, the ZA tray Icon is just a Icon that loads later in the Boot-up process..and TrueVector /vsmon.exe is the last thing to shutdown when your computer shuts down to insure that your computer is always protected..That is why " if Load ZoneAlarm on startup in not Un-checked" and computer Rebooted, Truevector will stay in Memory and will not be removed during Install or Upgrade, in fact the install may fail because Truevector in an attempt to protect your computer will think that the New Install attempt to install a new version of Truevector may be a Hacker Attempting to shut down Truevector..That is why it is very Important to use the Un-Check "Start ZA on Startup" method so that a New Upgrade Copy of TrueVector/vsmon.exe can be installed..b.) some Computer Users thinkhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/th_1what.gif that if one Firewall and anti-Virus is good, two or three different ones running at the same time must be better? http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gif

5.)- have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZoneAlarm firewall product.

I have a problem right off the bat. I downloaded the ZoneAlarm 7.1. When I tried to perform the next step, I right-clicked the icon in the tray and clicked Restore ZoneAlarm Control Center. The Control Center box opened up, but it was completely empty. Below the bar that says ZoneAlarm by CheckPoint there's only one word, and that's the link to Help (which incidentally responds to a click with "Help not available&quot.

You referred me to

http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...ssage.id=77735

Unfortunately, the second step is "Remove your current ZASS from the control panel --> uninstall a program."

When I attempt to do this, I get the familiar old "Uninstall ZoneAlarm" box, and when I click on the Uninstall button I get the same message that brought me to this forum in the first place: "TrueVector Internet Monitor was not uninstalled. The uninstaller was not able to stop the True Vector software services. This will happen if other software is using the True Vector engine."

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the Feedback.. I'll try to explain a more efective way to progress..1.) You can Not Uninstall ZoneAlarm while it is still running and trying to Protect your computer,as TrueVector will think that a HACKER or Trojan is trint to Uninstall ZoneAlarm.. http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gifHere is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-ridding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. Then remove this folders from your system:

"Internet Logs" (windows directory)
"Zone Labs" (under your Program Files folder)
"Zonelabs" (under your Windows System32 folder)

If you are not able to remove them, the boot in SAFE MODE and delete from SAFE MODE.

Now Try to Re- install ZA again and shutdown any securityprograms you are running before installing ZA.

Please post back with your progress report..

I mentioned this before, but when I open ZoneAlarm in order to uncheck Load ZoneAlarm On Startup, I get an empty box. At the top of the box it has the ZoneAlarm symbol and says, "ZoneAlarm by Checkpoint", then there's a graphic that says, "Internet" with green and red progress bars saying In and Out, and a Stop sign. Below that, it's completely empty. So I can't uncheck it.

Based on earlier instructions, I changed the target address in Uninstall ZoneAlarm Security Properties to "C:\Prgoram Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean /rmlicense. Could this be confusing things?

Unfortunately that is the ProblemYour ZA Install is Corrupteted and you will not be able to Uninstall in the Normal Windows Mode..You will have to Re-Boot the computer into SAFE Mode following the following Instructions..--------------------------Then follow the steps below to ensure NO ZA left over are on your system before reinstalling
The instruction are for XP, they are basically the same for VISTA (e.g. start --> VISTA search box --> and write the command)

01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
10.) Click OK
11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
> ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
possible
.

14.) Close this window
15.) Click Start, My Computer
16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

21.) Locate and delete the following files in the System32 folder if they are
present:

- vsconfig.xml
- vsxml.dll
- vsregexp.dll
- vsdata.dll
- vsdata95.vxd
- vsdatant.sys
- vsmonapi.dll
- vspubapi.dll
- vsinit.dll
- vsutil.dll
- vswmi.dll
- zlcommdb.dll
- zlcomm.dll
- z llictbl.dat
- zpeng24.dll

22.) Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type %temp% and click OK
- Select all of these files and delete them

23.) Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type Prefetch and click OK
- Select all of these files and delete them

24.) Remove the following registry entries by going to Start -> Run and

to the specified directories.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Now you should be able to re-Install ZoneAlarm.. (accept the Default setting, and Choose the TRUSTED ZONE and not the INTERNET Zone..then Reboot computer and chech Zone Alarms Program Control, Program Tab for the Following configuration..6.) NOTE: Make sure all of the following Programs have Trusted and Internet access (2 Green Check Marks):a.) All Microsoft and Windows Programs have Green Check marks for Trusted and Internet Access..b.) Generic Host Process for win32 Services (svchost.exe) also allow Trusted Server Rights (no Internet Server Rights)c.) IE Crash Detectiond.) Internet Explorer or FireFoxe.) Malicious Software Removal Toolf.) True Vector Service (If it is listed)g.) Zone Alarm Clienth.) Zone Alarm Updating Clienti.) Your Email Client needs Trusted, Internet accessand Send Mail all need Green check Marks..

It's going smoothly so far. When I get to the Temp Directory (Step 22), I'm told to "Select all of these files and delete them." I assume that this means folders as well as files?
