Default Difference between ZA Uninstall and Clean Uninstall?

I'm wanting to uninstall Zone Alarm Internet Security and trial a couple of other products instead. My question whether clicking on 'Uninstall Zone Alarm' in the program files (or using Your Uninstaller) is different to a 'clean' uninstall (where you change to the title in properties, removing files from System32 folder).

Which is the best method to use? Will both options clear any ZA entries from my computer registry?

Thanks

Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
Software Version:7.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Here is the Recomended Uninstall Method, unless your experiencing a problem Uninstalling ZASS, then there is a longer 27 step Complete Removal method..You can leave off the (rmlicense switch if you want to, this just removes Corrupted License from the registry to insure a New Key will be accepted)if you use the /rmlicense switch make sure you save a copy of your license key..Try a clean unistall of the program then reinstall the program.....

1.) Download a Current Copy of Zone Alarm Security Suite from
ZA website in the release history section.

http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html

2.) Go into ZA Overview/Preferences and Un-Check "Load Zone Alarm on Startup"
3.) Reboot Computer to Remove Zone Alarm drivers from Memory..
4.) Temporarily shut down any other AV/AS Security programs that May Conflict with ZA Install

5..) Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
RIGHT-click on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties.
Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninstexe"
Change it to:
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean /rmlicense (add a space and then the /clean)
Click OK to save the new command line.
Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs Security
Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that pop up.
say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files and allow TrueVector to shut down.
- Reboot

Now Start again in the Safe mode and delete these files in the Windows Directory:

WINDOWS\ Internet Logs

Program Files\Zone Labs

WINDOWS\system32\ Zonelabs

Now Reboot

Using something like this Freeware CCleaner <--- http://www.ccleaner.com/download/bui...wnloading-slim
, will help do the cleanup as well on both the Hard drive and the Registry .

Now Re-install the ZASS program now.

I would like to clarify the above.

I am still running a very old version 4.5.594.

Does this uninstall procedure also apply to my old version?
and do I understand this correctly that in order uninstall the current version, I should download the latest version first?

Thank you for your Feedback.. Yes this Uninstall methode should work for old 4.x version.. However, some of the File Names or File locations may be in a different location? The Reason for Downloading the New Copy of ZoneAlarm, before Uninstalling the Old ZoneAlarm, is so that you have the New ZoneAlarm Copy available to Re-Install after you Uninstall the Old ZA and Reboot your Computer.. Here is the Uninstall for very old Versions.. That I would use .. 1.) Go into ZA Control Menu.. Click Overview/Preference and Un-check "Load ZoneAlarm on Startup"2.) Reboot Computer and use Windows Add/Remove to uninstall ZA 4.5.594 3.) Reboot Computer.. 4.) Install New ZoneAlarm, Accept the Default Setting, (Unless installing ZAFree for XP, then DO-NOT accept the Free Security Suite Trial, Unless that is what you want), durring the Install Choose TRUSTED ZONE and not the INTERNET ZONE.. 5.) Reboot your Computer and do a Manual Checked for AV/AS Definition Updates (in not using the Free Version)Good Luck..--------------------------------------------------------
