    Default True Vector crashing

I upgraded to the 8.0.020 version when it first came out and had all kinds of problems, so I removed that version (assume it worked?...) and went back to 7.0.483 which used to work fine. All was well for a few weeks but now TrueVector Service keeps turning itself off and on again and restricting access to the internet. I also get the message 'System Error: Please Reboot' which reappears after reboots.... Sometimes it starts itself, other times I get a pop up asking if I want to re-enable it. All these problems started with Ver 8 and now they are reappearing like the uninstall didn't really happen...

While trying to do a clean install (tried 3-4 times now) I randomly get errors like 'Must close all dialogue boxes first' (none are up!), 'must have system admin privileges' (I am!), never ending anti-virus update checking, 'TrueVector service needs to be restarted', etc etc the list goes on and I get all the common error messages listed on the forums but none of the listed fixes work very long. Whats worse is now its crashing my system when it tries to update the anti-virus, rebooted itself without warning or locked up the computer (forcing a hard reboot).

All this started when MS updated itself and ZASS needed the KB951748 update. All I want to do is fix my firewall and get back to work, why does this have to be such a pain to accomplish? I don't want to be a beta tester or mess around with the guts of my operating system every time something changes in my environment. What do I have to do as a paying customer to get my money's worth and get things working again without an engineering degree?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:7.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

It looked like it was going to work but it didn't last, I'm back to the 'System Error: Please Reboot' message on the firewall.

    Hi!
did you actually completely manual remove ZA and reinstall?
What else is running? P2P, other antispyware, other antivirus, any other tool running at boot?
Is your machine clean of malware?
Are you forcing the shutting down of your system?

    See here:
    http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b....id=3787#M3787

Reset again and boot your machine with only ZA and standard MS software and services. This way:

    1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
    Monitor, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

    How does it work?

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

Yes, I did manually remove it and do all the registry stuff, etc.

The problem seems to appear as soon as I plug into the network. if I unplug the cable ZA returns to normal.

    My Firewall Zones are:

    Loopback Adapter - Trusted
    DHCP Server - Trusted
router IP to any IP - Internet

I tried switching the router connection to trusted but the same problem occurred. Oh, and for some reason the AV keeps switching itself off after a reboot.

As for other security-related stuff I have something called IC Spyware installed that I cant remove, and something associated with System Mechanic 7.

Hi!looks like you have malware/riskware issues. For example IC Spyware IC Spyware Scanner is a rogue antispyware utility that contains an inappropriate EULA and false positives. It couldhave already messed up your system. Never trust antispyware tools unless you are 100% sure.System Mechanics is another application that can negatively impact on registry integrity. Never trust all in one optimization tools. They usually do some harm on your system. Earlier version of System Mecahnics were conflicting with ZA. DId ZA ever worked correctly in your system? If yes, and there are no major OS corruption of core files then you should be able to run ZA back as it should1. Remove System Mechanics2. Remove ZA3. Clean your system from malware4. Clean your system and registry with CCleaner (its free and solid)5. Reinstall ZAFor Point 2, remove ZASS following the instruction below:http://www2.nohold.net/noHoldCust542...n_install.html(remember to remove the folder detailed at the end of the document and take note of your license)For point3 start with downloading MBAM free and execute it:http://www.malwarebytes.org/then move to SuperAntispyware free (download, update definitions and run it)http://www.superantispyware.com/down...ntiSpyware.exeFor Point 4, find here CCleaner:http://www.ccleaner.com/download/bui...wnloading-slimFor point 5, see here:http://www2.nohold.net/noHoldCust542...structZAP.htmlCheers,Fax

Ok, I did all the steps described and all seemed to work well until today when ZA started exhibiting the same problems ("System Error: Please Reboot&quot. I haven't installed anything new or changed anything since it started to work. It seems that it happens whenever I connect the ethernet cable and try to connect to the internet.

Hi!Is your system stable?Do you shutdown normally or you force shutdown?Did you apply some ad-hoc settings to ZA? Modified the trusted zone?Did you install back other security tools as you had before? Are you free of malware? Check again with the tools suggested in the previous messages.Try to reset the ZA settings:1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after rebootIf the above fails time to contact ZA support directly: www.zonealarm.com/tsform Cheers,Fax

Thanks for all your help Fax. Unfortunately, resetting ZA didn't work either. Superantispy and ccleaner didn't find anything wrong and I didn't reinstall the probable conflicting software. And yes, my system is stable aside from ZA. I'll contact tech support and if they can resolve the problem I'll post it in this thread.

    Cheers,
