Default Windows XP SP3 - Unable to install 80 059 and am unable to reinstall 70 483

Hi, tried to install 80 059 today and it crashed.
Got the message this morning saying that a new version was available. Downloaded it to my D drive and tried to run it from there
Starts installation and gets to 3%, Microsoft_VC90_ReleaseCRT_x86.msi. Then after a minute or two it gets to 5% and brings up the Zone Alrm installation screen.you proceed and accept T&C's and it then errors with 'TrueVector Service' and asking if you want to report it to Microsoft. If I go into debug I get the following message
    Unhandled exception at 0x7c812aeb in vsmon.exe: 0xA3410004: 0xa3410004.
Have tried to re-install 70 483 but get a message saying 'Zonealrm Security Suite 1025-English has encountered a problem' again asking if you want to report the error to MIcrosoft

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:8.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

I also ran into an installation problem very similar to this. With me however the file "Microsoft_VC90_ReleaseCRT_x86.msi" is not on my system and the install dialog box just sits there at 3% until I get tired of looking at it and kill it.

So what is this Checkpoint can't handle installations on XP systems with service pack 3?????

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>1.) The "MSI" (MicroSoft Installer) error, means that the Downloaded ZA File that you tried to install, was Incomplete or Corrupted during the Download.. I would recomend deleting the downloaded file and clean out your Temp and Cashe filesIE Temp filesand Recycle Bin..<HR>2 -Don't use any download managers or web accelerators( often used with dial-up) = [these conflict with ZA= and should not be used] during ZA Download
3.)The simplest procedure is to:1.Download theZAinstallerpreferably with IE7 and no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right) ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html ZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAAS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --&gt; Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4. Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Please note that ZA does not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZA issues remove them and install back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example, spyspweeper, spyware doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&amp;D, PC tools Threatfire, otherantivirus, antispyware, registry locking tools, etc...--------------------------------------------------------

When I tried to install the new version of Security Suite it appears to have deleted the old version so Zone Alarm is not there for me to unflag 'Load ZA at start up'.I've deleted all history, temp files etc and downloaded the Security Suite installer and exactly the same thing happens. It sits at 3% for ages and then moves to 5% and then starts the Security Suite installation.
I accept the default folder for installation by clicking NextOn registration I accept defaults by clicking NextI tick that I accept your T&amp;C's and click Install
I then get a message titled
TrueVector Service. saying that there's been a problem. I I click on the link to see the error report It says
    Error signature

Thank you for your Feedback..1.) Before installing a New Za Upgrade it is a Very Good Idea to properly shutdown the Old version, by Unchecking "Load ZoneAlarm on Startup"If you don't do that First, then you may end up between a Rock and a Hard place, because TrueVector (vsmon.exe) will not be shut down and continue to Protect your Computer from the New Install that will try to Over-write vsmon.exe with a new Copy..Here is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-riding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. that is why some users have problems updating ZoneAlarm or any other security program..vsmon.exe/TrueVector is the first thing that loads when your computer starts to boot up, the ZA tray Icon is just a Icon that loads later in the Boot-up process.. and TrueVector /vsmon.exe is the last thing to shut down when your computer shuts down to insure that your computer is always protected..That is why in "Load ZoneAlarm on startup in not Un-checked" and computer Rebooted, Truevector will stay in Memory and will not be removed during Install or Upgrade, in fact the install may fail because Truevector in an attempt to protect your computer will think that the New Install attempt to install a new version of Truevector may be a Hacker Attempting to shut down Truevector..That is why it is Important to use the Un-Check "Start ZA on Startup" method so that a New Upgrade Copy of trueVector/vsmon.exe can bee installed..2.) how you will need to try and Clean out all traces of ZoneAlarm , befor you can Re-Install the new Zone Alarm..3.) here is the Simple Short method tham may for if your Lucky..you may want to try to re-download the installer without using any download managers...ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html ZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAAS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html

Then remove these folders from your system:

    "Internet Logs" (windows directory)
"Zone Labs" (under your Program Files folder)
"Zonelabs" (under your Windows System32 folder)

If you are not able to remove them, the boot in SAFE MODE and delete from SAFE MODE.

Now Try to install ZA again and shutdown any security tools you are running before installing ZA.

Hi there, Well I tried to install from Safe Mode.
Having deleted the files you mentioned it was still
no good, it still does the same thing.
Gets to 5% on installation and brings up the dialog box asking which folder do I want to install it to. The the t&amp;C's and then it errors asking if I want to report it to Microsoft. If I go into a link I get the following info
    AppName: glb1.tmp

    AppVer: 8.0.59.0
    ModName: msvcr90.dll
    ModVer:

    9.0.21022.8
    Offset: 0003b63f
I guess the short way didn't work, so maybe it's time for the long way!!

Probably the best is to have a full manual remove of ZASS and reinstall.

Please note that ZASS does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, ad-aware, spybotS&amp;D, spyware doctor, spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you have still another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.

To troubleshoot ZASS issue is highly recommended to remove all the above and install back (if you really need to) after your ZASS works as it should. If you have not installed any of the above ensure that NO left overs are in the system (they can conflict).

First re-download the latest ZASS version here:

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html
Then : Remove your current ZASS from the control panel --&gt; uninstall a program

Then follow the steps below to ensure NO ZA left over are on your system before reinstalling
The instruction are for XP, they are basically the same for VISTA (e.g. start --&gt; VISTA search box --&gt; and write the command)

    01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
    (Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
    10.) Click OK
    11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
&gt; ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
    possible.

    14.) Close this window
    15.) Click Start, My Computer
    16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

21.) Locate and delete the following files in the System32 folder if they are
    present:

    - vsconfig.xml
    - vsxml.dll
    - vsregexp.dll
    - vsdata.dll
    - vsdata95.vxd
    - vsdatant.sys
    - vsmonapi.dll
    - vspubapi.dll
    - vsinit.dll
    - vsutil.dll
    - vswmi.dll
    - zlcommdb.dll
    - zlcomm.dll
    - z llictbl.dat
    - zpeng24.dll

22.) Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.

    - Go to Start -&gt; Run
    - Type %temp% and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them

23.) Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.

    - Go to Start -&gt; Run
    - Type Prefetch and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them

24.) Remove the following registry entries by going to Start -&gt; Run and
typing in regedit. Use the folders on the left side of the window to navigate
    to the specified directories.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
    registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start &gt;&gt; Run &gt;&gt; and type regedit. Click on Help &gt;&gt; Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files
    .

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
    26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Install the New ZASS-----------------------ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:8.0.059.000

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Thank you for your Feedback..Sorry for the Hastle, Sometimes when Upgrading to a Major Upgrade like 7 to 8 if the Previous Version was not Properly shut down, some of the old Files get Locked by Windows and are not Reoplaced by the New Install..and a Full Clean out of the Old files is needed to allow the New Files to be installed correctly..I'm Glad things are working well for you now..
