Default Perform a clean uninstall of ZoneAlarm

I have read several ways of how to do a clean uninstall.I found this on the User Forum :

ZoneAlarm Customer Care

This Information Applies to:
ZoneAlarm

Summary:
How to Perform a Clean Install

Solution:

There is an option available to perform a clean uninstall. Please make sure that you have the latest version downloaded already, if you plan to reinstall. This will also clear up any licensing problems that you may be having.

In order to perform a clean uninstall of ZoneAlarm, please follow the steps below:

IMPORTANT - If you have a Cisco VPN client installed, you must first uninstall the VPN client, then follow the instructions below, and reinstall the Cisco VPN client again afterwards. This procedure will remove all traces of the TrueVector service, which was incorporated by Cisco into their VPN software.

* If you wish to keep your settings, create a Backup from Overview - > Preferences before starting, and then Restore afterwards (available in ZoneAlarm Premium products only).
* Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
* RIGHT-click on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties
* Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):

"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe"

* Change it to:

"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean /rmlicense

(add a space and then the /clean /rmlicense)

* Click OK to save the new command line.
* Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs Security
* Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that pop up.
* say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files and allow TrueVector to shut down.
* Reboot
* After rebooting, check for the following folders, and delete them if you find them:

"Internet Logs"

"Zone Labs" (under your Program Files folder)

"Zonelabs" (under your Windows System32 folder)

* Empty your recycle bin
* Reboot
* install the latest version if you are reinstalling

Close Window

I also run CCleaner before install and have had no problems with installation.

I have windows vista and downloaded Internet suite this past weekend.
I received the true vector messages and read that I needed to uninstall and reinstall.
I find it hard to believe they would put up an old version that won't work and then tell you to do it over, but since I have already paid for it I decided to try it.
I have tried every way posted including the one posted on this thread.
I am able to replace the target line with the one suggested.
When I click ok and go back and click unistall I get the message "The unistaller cannot locate sources needed to uninstall.
I have tried the manual removal of zone alarm and that isn't getting me any where either.
I am so frustrated!!
Why is everything so friggin complicated.
Why would they give you an uninstall option and then have to do all kinds of things to make it work?
I really regret installing this program.
If any one has any more suggestions I'd love to hear them.
Thank you any one who can help.Kathy

2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --> Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4. Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Please note that ZASS does not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZASS issues remove them and install back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example, spyspweeper, spyware doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&D, PC tools Threatfire, otherantivirus, antispyware, registry locking tools, etc...Here is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-ridding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. That is why some users have problems updating ZoneAlarm or any other security program..vsmon.exe/TrueVector is the first thing that loads when your computer starts to boot up, the ZA tray Icon is just a Icon that loads later in the Boot-up process..and TrueVector /vsmon.exe is the last thing to shutdown when your computer shuts down to insure that your computer is always protected..That is why " if Load ZoneAlarm on startup in not Un-checked" and computer Rebooted, Truevector will stay in Memory and will not be removed during Install or Upgrade, in fact the install may fail because Truevector in an attempt to protect your computer will think that the New Install attempt to install a new version of Truevector may be a Hacker Attempting to shut down Truevector..That is why it is very Important to use the Un-Check "Start ZA on Startup" method so that a New Upgrade Copy of TrueVector/vsmon.exe can be installed..-----------------------------1.) If you did not properly Shutdows ZoneAlarm before trying to Install the New Version,, some of the Old ZoneAlarms may have been Locked and preventing the New Install from working..When Manually Removing Does not work The Folowing 27 Step method usually works for everybody..Hi!
Probably the best is to have a full manual remove of ZASS and reinstall.

Please note that ZASS does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, ad-aware, spybotS&D, spyware doctor, spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you have still another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.

To troubleshoot ZASS issue is highly recommended to remove all the above and install back (if you really need to) after your ZASS works as it should. If you have not installed any of the above ensure that NO left overs are in the system (they can conflict).

First re-download the latest ZASS version here:
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

Then : Remove your current ZASS from the control panel --> uninstall a program

Then follow the steps below to ensure NO ZA left over are on your system before reinstalling
The instruction are for XP, they are basically the same for VISTA (e.g. start --> VISTA search box --> and write the command)

01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Install back..

OK, it appears that the program has been uninstalled.
Do I dare try and reinstall this program. (Internet Suite)?
If so how do I know it is going to work with Vista this time?
