Default ZA Pro, new Vista machine, locks Internet

On November 2/08, I downloaded the paid version, Zone Alarm Pro, on my brand new Windows Vista machine.
I proceeded to run the executable to install it.
This appeared to go flawlessly, no power outages or other odd computer behaviour.
However, just installing ZA Pro cut off Internet access.
There was one of the tiny, one-click-start icons on the Vista taskbar, as well as the usual entry on the Start, Programs screen.
When I moved the mouse pointer over the tiny one-click-start icon, the icon would disappear, so I could not start the ZA user screen that way.
When I clicked the icon in the Start, Programs list to start the user screen, nothing happened.
In order to restore use of the Internet, I had to do a complete uninstall.
    I now have a product I can't use.
I've been waiting since November 3/08 for an email reply from Support.
I get the automatic response showing they received it, but no reply with instructions on what to do.
FYI Vista is Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001

&lt; read this<hr>Tips: For first time users of ZoneAlarm -

1- Have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - Click here &gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154
. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZA firewall product. This is an
    important step to follow.
{ if you are only installing ZA Free, ZA Pro - you only need to un-install any previous firewall; keep any other brand of 'stand-alone' anti-virus software you want; you will need to un-install firewall and anti-virus only if you want to install ZA Internet Suite and ZoneAlarm AntiVirus firewall products. } Please use the special &quot;Removal Tool&quot; if you have Norton or McAfee. Make sure you have not accepted any security software from your ISP, that may also conflict with a ZA install.<hr>2 - do not
you use any download managers or web accelerators( often used with dial-up) = [these conflict with ZA
= should not be used] during ZA install - temporarily shut them 'off.'<hr>3 - please list other security software -
ex. - anti-spyware: Webroot Spysweeper, PCTool's SpywareDoctor - ThreatFire, CounterSpy Vipre, SpyCatcher, Windows Defender,
    Lavasoft Ad-Aware,
    etc.= these should be shut-off/ shut-down
    prior to installing
    ZA;
monitoring/performance software - system mechanics, norton utilties/ backups/ ghosts. Make sure to shut-off WindowsDefender and Windows Firewall, just prior to ZA install.<hr>4 - did you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/ 7 or Firefox or others to download? IE 6/ 7 is preferred. &lt;&lt;&lt; Better results, if you temporarily use IE 6/ 7 for downloading any ZoneAlarm firewall product.<hr>5 - in your web browser - if it has security &gt; trusted zone/ site list and pop-up blocker settings - adjust -
    add &quot;download.zonealarm.com&quot; to safe/trusted-site/whitelist

and of any pop-blockers software you may have.<hr>6 - Make sure your settings are correct - click here &gt; http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...message.id=145
IE7 with three green bars, Access - two green checks, etc.<hr>7 - re-install 7.1.254 or 8.0<hr>:8}NaiveMelody NYC 11-7-08 - Green River - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Default Re: ZA Pro, new Vista machine, locks Internet

    PROBLEM FOUND:
Vista has a feature called &quot;Data Execution Prevention&quot;.
It is possible to set DEP to not restrict programs a userchooses, say the menus.
However, when I try to add any of the ZA Pro componentsto the list of programs DEP must allow to run, I get amessage saying the ZA program MUST be run with DEPactive, and, DEP keeps shutting it off.
I have shut down Windows Defender, uninstalled theAVG Free antivirus which came with the machine, disabledWindows Firewall, and shut down my third party antivirusESET Nod32.
From what I'm seeing on screen, it's the &quot;Data ExecutionPrevention&quot; program which is not optional, say the messages, which is preventing ZA Pro from running.
Has anyone found a way around this?

Default Attention Acer users - read this...

A number of users with new Acer pc/ laptops have had installation failures with ZA - some producing 'errors' with &quot;PSDProtect.dll_unloaded.&quot; or &quot;that Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
has closed zone alarm&quot; , etc.
Here is a possible fix, thanks to user 'ketilgd' for his support and for posting back this solution...&gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...ssage.id=79904
= you can read the entire thread top to bottom.<hr>&quot;Hi, my brother recently bought a new Acer Aspire 5930. And when installing Zonealarm also got this problem.
After trying lots of different ways to bypass the problem, I finally found out what was causing the problem (with some help from another acer user who got a similar problem installing/using a different program.

The PSDProtect.dll belongs to &quot;Acer eDataSecurity Management&quot;, one part of the &quot;Acer Empowering Technology&quot; program group.

Uninstalling this program (&quot;Acer eDataSecurity Management&quot; ) before installing Zonealarm makes the problem go away completely

Hope this helps. (And isn't too late)

    Kind Regards

Default Re: DEP Vista - restricts ZA

    Thanks for the tips.
I've gone through those DEP screens, and my Vista refuses to allow me to list any ZA Pro components as having permission to run.
I got a long list of steps from ZA support too, so long and complex that, together with the problems to date, I have decided to just ask for a refund.
I miss the ZA Pro features, particularly the program and component control settings, so I will try again in about a year for a genuinely Vista compatible version.
My Acer is a desktop, &quot;AM1200-E1530A&quot; according to the sticker on the front.

Default Attention Eleanor - Read this...

I guess your a busy woman who had just simply glanced over the info presented to you. From my first post, the first link &gt; Click here &gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...ssage.id=73617
<hr>then...[ Attention: 'Acer' computers: Acer + ZA - installation failures &gt; fix is available &gt; click here &gt; http://forum.zonealarm.org/zonelabs/...mp=true#M78568
] <hr>...&quot;Uninstalling this program (&quot;Acer eDataSecurity Management&quot; ) before installing Zonealarm makes the problem go away completely&quot;<hr>So what had to be done is to 'un-install &quot;Acer eDataSecurity Management&quot; which would have allowed windows DEP to install ZA. Making any adjustments, alone, on the DEP would have made no difference, as you had observed. Acer's eDataSecurity Management is what put 'their' extra restictive protocols in. <hr>Go to windows Add/ Remove find Acer eDataSecurity Management or where ever else it may reside and un-install. Then re-install ZA using the basic tips and guidelines already provided. It should install now. <hr>&gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...ssage.id=73617<hr>A number of users with new Acer pc/ laptops have had installation failures with ZA - some producing 'errors' with &quot;PSDProtect.dll_unloaded.&quot; or &quot;that Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
