Default Unable to boot after install of version 8

I attempted to upgrade my zonealarm antivirus to version 8.0.059.000. I did not shutdown zonealarm, I just ran the upgrade. After the required reboot, my computer displayed a Blue screen of death before the windows logo even appeared.

I rebooted into safe mode and successfully uninstalled the software. I followed the online instructions for removing all files and registry entries. I rebooted into windows and reinstalled version 8 with the The same result.

I redownloaded the setup application to make sure that the file wasn't corrupt and went through the same steps again: uninstall, remove files, clean registry. I still recieved the same result: An instant blue screen after reboot. The screen disappears so quickly that it can't be read.

I am running windows XP Home with Service Pack 3. I also have Windows defender installed. There are no other anivirus or firewall applications on my computer. I reinstalled version 7.0.483.000 and it runs great. If I can't upgrade to the new version then I will have to select a new solution.

The simplest procedure is to:1.Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browwserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right) ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html ZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAAS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --> Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4. Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Please note that ZASS does not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZASS issues remove them and install back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example, spyspweeper, spyware doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&D, PC tools Threatfire, otherantivirus, antispyware, registry locking tools, etc...Here is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-ridding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. That is why some users have problems updating ZoneAlarm or any other security program..vsmon.exe/TrueVector is the first thing that loads when your computer starts to boot up, the ZA tray Icon is just a Icon that loads later in the Boot-up process..and TrueVector /vsmon.exe is the last thing to shutdown when your computer shuts down to insure that your computer is always protected..That is why " if Load ZoneAlarm on startup in not Un-checked" and computer Rebooted, Truevector will stay in Memory and will not be removed during Install or Upgrade, in fact the install may fail because Truevector in an attempt to protect your computer will think that the New Install attempt to install a new version of Truevector may be a Hacker Attempting to shut down Truevector..That is why it is very Important to use the Un-Check "Start ZA on Startup" method so that a New Upgrade Copy of TrueVector/vsmon.exe can be installed..b.) some Computer Users thinkhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/th_1what.gif that if one Firewall and anti-Virus is good, two or three different ones running at the same time must be better? http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gif

    Default Even worse...

I'm having the same problem, but unable to boot into Safemode. I've done everything I can think of at this point and am about to format the drive and reinstall XP. I'm on SP2 and was upgrading to version 8. The install said it failed, though, and I hit OK, and it started the reboot sequence. I haven't been able to access anything since. I've booted into the recovery console with the install CD and am doing a chkdsk repair now. Any other options? I've never had a machine get so messed up before.

    Default No need...

I really do appreciate your willingness to help, but I can't even access my files to even know which version of anything I'm using. I've pulled the drive and connected to my work machine and the file system appears to be corrupted. Could be a coincidence, but I've been looking for a good excuse to load ubuntu on my desktop (which I'm using on my laptop). This appears to be it. Good thing I backed up My Documents to NAS before the install. Thanks again for the prompt reply.

    No luck.

I unchecked the Load at startup box and did a cold boot. Then I reinstalled version 8 again (same version as last time) and did an upgrade. I set it to auto-learn at let it scan my programs and reboot my laptop. I got the same blue screen of death directly after the windows XP logo.

I realized that I had a second hardware profile that I didn't use anymore. Wondering if that was the problem, I deleted it, but it changed nothing.

I rebooted normally a few times to see if I could read the blue screen before it disappeared. All I could manage to read was IRQL_LESS_THAN_EQUAL or something like that.

    A few more details: 1.8GHz AMD Turion64 mobile processor (running 32bit) | 1 GB RAM | Hitachi 2.5" 100GB PATA hard drive | Toshiba DVD-ROM | Windows XP Home SP3

A few more tries: I realized that by pressing F8 I could disable the automatic reboot so I could see the blue screen. Unfortunately, the screen gave little more than Windows telling me to contact my hardware or software provider.

Next I saw that I could actually start ZoneAlarm in Safe Mode with Networking. It runs fine. I tried unchecking the load at startup box and rebooting, but it did the same thing.
