    Default version 8.0.059.000 installation disaster

I began by uninstalling using the function in the Zone Labs folder. Upon installing the new program it locked-up XP on reboot. I loaded safe mode and was able to uninstall using the /clean option this time. I reinstalled and had the same XP lockup. After three go-arounds I gave up and loaded a freeware AV program so I was protected. No problems here . . .

The previous version was operating without any difficulty. What have you done to this program to make it prevent XP from loading?

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:8.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Antivirus

1.) What other Security Software have you installed that Blocks or conflicted with the Install of ZoneAlarm??It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
If you would Describe your Computer Setup/OS and Version of Zone Alarm that you are having a problem with
and what difficulty you are having, and what Previous Version of ZA and Norton, McAfee or other Security programs that you have installed,
there are several very knowledgeable Volunteer Participants willing to help you try solving your problem with Zone Alarm..Please provide as much detail and error messages etc. that you see on your ComputerMonitor. 2.) Please Right Click on the ZA Tray icon on the Lower Right and Click the "About" Option this will pop up a windows with all the Info about your Version Of ZA including the complete Version Number.. Click the "Copy to Clipboard" and Paste that information Here in the Forum by pressing the "CTRL-V" key..

The OS is WinXP Pro patched to the latest releases from MS.
As stated in the subject, the problem version is 8.0.059.000. I think that is the latest version . . .
As mentioned in the original post, the computer won't load Windows. I get the splash screen and that's it. The PC freezes. I rebooted into safe mode and did an uninstall and then the computer booted OK. The freeware AV program installed without incident and promptly updated itself with the latest library. No doubt it is a much simpler program than ZL AV.

The version of ZA AV I replaced was the latest version of the previous release. Since I uninstalled it, I can't provide you with the version number. But I've been very particular to stay updated.
There is no other AV or security software that loads on start up. The only related software is Windows Firewall.

From other posts it seems possible there may be "remnants" of the original program left behind despite the addition of /clean to the uninstall command line. Are these are the source of the problem?

There is no ZA Tray icon to click on. As I mentioned, I loaded a freeware AV product so I would not be unprotected. ZL AV is not in that computer. I am using a backup computer right now.

    Thanks for your assistance.
