Thread: ZASS 8.0.59 Could not load the dll library.....

Default ZASS 8.0.59 Could not load the dll library.....

There seem to be plenty of threads covering this topic - I have read and followed lots of them, and none of the solutions presented has worked so far.
I have now installed the above version of ZASS successfully on two PCs (one running WinXP/SP3, the other Win Vista Home Premium), but the final one also running WinXP/SP3 does not get beyond the 3% installation point, and continuously fails with the message starting "Could not load DLL library........" - and this is on a PC that has not had ZoneAlarm installed previously.
I have tried so many fixes now that I have probably lost track of them.

Here are those that I recall (with
    restarts after many steps):
    a)
remove all other virus checkers, spyware checkers and the like (and I don't mean switch off - I mean completely uninstall).b)
run CCleaner multiple times until there are no issues left.c)
delete all files starting "vs...." and "zl......" from windows/system32 folderd)
delete all files from Temp foldere)
remove all download managers, and download clean file from history page on Zonelabs websitef)

    use IE rather than Firefoxg)
remove any remnants of previous install attempts from Program Files folder
    So what now?
    best regards
    Richard

    Fax,

    thanks for the reply.

I have now tried to install in safe mode with networking. No luck, I'm afraid - even after redownloading the files, including the installer. Its the same error message as always.

The rest of the error message may have a clue. It says:

"The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

It suggests that there is something corrupt in the files I have from ZoneLabs, and presumably the corruption is occuring in the download process. As far as I know I am not running any download managers which might cause file corruption.

    Hi!

ok... if you have not done so try this below... you need to ensure 100% that all files mentioned are out of the systems...

Also, have you tried to create a new admin account and install from there?

    ----------------

Remove ZA from add/remove programs then:

    01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
    (Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
    10.) Click OK
    11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
    > ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
    possible.

    14.) Close this window
    15.) Click Start, My Computer
    16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

21.) Locate and delete the following files in the System32 folder if they are
    present:

    - vsconfig.xml
    - vsxml.dll
    - vsregexp.dll
    - vsdata.dll
    - vsdata95.vxd
    - vsdatant.sys
    - vsmonapi.dll
    - vspubapi.dll
    - vsinit.dll
    - vsutil.dll
    - vswmi.dll
    - zlcommdb.dll
    - zlcomm.dll
    - z llictbl.dat
    - zpeng24.dll

22.) Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.

    - Go to Start -> Run
    - Type %temp% and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them

23.) Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.

    - Go to Start -> Run
    - Type Prefetch and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them

24.) Remove the following registry entries by going to Start -> Run and
typing in regedit. Use the folders on the left side of the window to navigate
    to the specified directories.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
    registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
    26.) Restart the computer.

    Fax,

thanks for the comprehensive instructions. I'm afraid to say it failed - with the same error message as before.

It may be worth pointing out that I had already done most of what you listed previously, based on similar advice to other people complaining of the same problem on this forum. Also there was almost no evidence of ZoneAlarm files or folders on my PC - most of the files you listed could not be found at all.

I also tried the idea of creating a new admin account, and running the install from that.

Finally, I used the download file that was previously stored on one of my other PCs that have installed the application successfully only a week ago.

All these ploys have totally failed, so is there anything else I can try?

    best regards

    Fax,

I might also add that I now have no virus or similar protection on this computer, having disabled all previous protection in an effort to get this install to run. The only protection left is the Windows XP firewall which is running.

I am thus concerned that I could have picked up some virus while trying to get ZoneAlarm to install. Is there any known virus that can produce this failure to install?

    Hi!
I think main DLL OS drivers got un-registered from the system somehow and you need to re-register them.
I guess the only way to install successfully ZA is to refresh the OS.

I can't think on anything easier to target only those system DLL
