    Default No protection

    Hi there.......I need to reformat and do a clean install of Windows XP because of virus problems and other frustrations.
    My XP disc is Service Pack 1 only.......i.e. without Windows Firewall.
    The latest version of Zone Alarm requires a connection to the internet while installing.
    Not only that, it requires Service Pack 2 or later.
    My problem is this:
    How can I be protected while downloading Service Packs 2 and 3 and other Microsoft Updates with no firewall?
    Hope all this makes sense.......cheers.......Steve

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:8.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

    You can try installing an earlier version of ZA Free - 6.5.737 is downloadable and will usually offer less issues than 7.0 or 8.0 (which do requrie SP2)<hr>Click here &gt;
    - get 6.5.737 it's old but still works better than windows firewall, I guess we can agree on that point.<hr>At this point I would recommend you upgrade direct from SP1 to SP3* which actually works out. Click here &gt;
    = it's a large download, save to desktop, then you will have to shut off firewall, anti-virus and most anti-spyware during actual SP3 install - it's do-able. Caution if you have HP desktop - read notes. If you have dial-up shut off accelerator. *(if you download direct to SP3 - SP3 already includes SP2 - so there is no need to install SP2 at all). Read/ go to
    microsoft website articles to familarize yourself with the whole process.<hr>:8}NaiveMelody NYC 12-2-08 - I'd Love To Change The World - Ten Years After

    You could download install one at a time and install from saved folder or from burn disk.

    SP2 :

    SP3 :

    You could Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Packs and Create Bootable CD.

    Just a suggestion.

    Good to hear. When you've been running fairly stable for a while you may want to 'eventually' upgrade to 7.0.483 ZA Free (or if you want extra protection with paid/ premium versions
    go up
    8.0 ZA firewalls). ZA 6.5 Free should be a 'temporary' fix; one should eventually upgrade to ZA Free 7.0.483 &gt; there have been two microsoft updates that have interfered with versions below 7.0.483.<hr>Click here &gt;
    <hr>So once you've got SP3 (or minimally SP2) you can upgrade to ZA Free 7.0.483. I would recommend an 'un-install' of 6.5 and then re-install from 'release history link'<hr>Click here &gt;
    - use one of the un-install instructions, and then use the 'release history link' to re-install new 7.0.483.
