Default Cursor freeze after installing ZA free

I just installed Norton AV 2009....had to uninstall ZA free to do it.
NAV worked ok after installation. Then I installed ZA free and got as far as the desktop and the mouse cursor froze up completely.
Had to remove ZA in safe mode to get operational again.
What's going on here...is ZA incompatible with Norton AV 2009?

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:8.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Here is what Norton has to say about that issue---although concerning ZA pro 7
In Norton AntiVirus 2009, the firewall feature was removed to provide you the flexibility to select a firewall of your choice. However, the firewalls that include additional security layers, like the anti-spyware protection that is included as part of ZoneAlarm Pro 7, conflict with the security features included in Norton AntiVirus 2009.
While we plan to address the incompatibility between Norton AntiVirus 2009 and ZoneAlarm s basic firewall with a product update early next year, it is not likely we will be able to address the conflict with ZoneAlarm Pro 7 due to its inclusion of anti-spyware protection which conflicts with Norton AntiVirus 2009 s security and protection features. For this reason, we alert that you have an incompatible product on your computer when you attempt the installation of Norton AntiVirus 2009 over ZoneAlarm Pro 7.
For the best experience, we recommend that you choose a standalone firewall to compliment your installation of Norton AntiVirus 2009, or if you do not already have one, consider upgrading to Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 which both have the Norton Smart Firewall included

    jkallio, as
    a working
alternative &gt; you may use a downgraded version of NAV 2008 in conjunction with ZA firewalls. There are a number of users who have successfully achieved this set up; they called up Norton and asked for their license to be downgraded - compliance.<hr>:8}NaiveMelody NYC - 12-6-08 - We Can Work It Out - The Beatles

Why not get a free antivirus that doesn't conflict with ZA, like AVG? It's what I use, no conflicts, no problems. Statistically, it may not be at the top of the pack like Norton, although I think Kaspersky is probably the best antivirus solution out there.
