Default vsmon.exe has generated errors pop-up followed by DrWatson Fatal Error at Zone start-up

I just upgraded to Zone Security Suite Version 8
(80_059_000) with my OS on XP Home Edition SP3.
The install works fine but when zone starts, I receive a Program Error pop-up that states:

"vsmon.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows.
You will need to restart the program."
This pop-up is followed by a DrWatson Fatal Error pop-up stating:

"Dr. Watson was unable to attach to the process. It is possble that process exited before Dr. Watson could attach to it.
Windows returned error code = -2147024891

    Access denied"
The pop-ups re-appear within a few seconds of [Cancel] on the program error and [OK] on the DrWatson error.
Also, when I hold the cursor over the Z in the task bar, it shows "Protection is up, UI is initializing"..Zone has been removed and reinstalled several times in both normal start-up and in safe mode using the program uninstall and the manual method (as seen in many posts)..Of additional note, Zone starts successfully in Safe Mode..Any ideas on what is happening or what I should try next to get Zone to work under a normal start-up
(the start at start-up option has been ed-selected)????

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:8.0

    <hr></blockquote>Zxytest,
Giving as much detail as possible, have you reported this to technical support?
https://www.zonealarm.com/store/cont...ch_support.jspIf you are not already aware, it is recommended to use internet explorer browser when submitting form to technical support; and you should get an email acknowledgement with a case number back fairly quickly - if this doesn't happen then it did not get properly submitted to technical or it ended up in your spam filter file.
If you do submit your problem to technical, please post back any response and help other users in this forum who share the same problem and are seeking a solution.

    UPDATE: Zone
    Tech supports
initial response was to perform a 'reset' on Zone
(Hold down Ctrl &amp; Shift keys, right click on the 'Z' in the task bar and select the reset option).
    I
believe this reloads all default settings.

For my problem, I couldn't even get the menu to appear that contains the reset option. I suspect it has to do with the vsmon.exe process keeps re-initing after acknowledgement of the Dr. Watson Fatal Error.
I restarted the computer in Safe mode with Networking and started Zone successfully there.

I was able to perform the reset .
However, that had no impact when I rebooted back to normal mode.
The same two error pop-ups (Program Error and DR Watson Fatal Error) windows appeared within a few seconds of starting Zone.
This info along with the tvDebug.log file has been emailed back to Zone Tech Support.

Rather then run zoneless, I even tried uninstalling Zone version 8 and re-installing the last version 7 files I have stored in a downloads folder.
Version 7 wouldn t install do to some error related to a klif file (at ~53% of the install) the same error that took a several install attempts over as many days to get past it when it was initially installed.

Yes I did perform the manual removal steps.
I've done that manual uninstall/removal steps so many times this past week that I just about have the steps memorized.
I first learned of the manual removal steps with the installation of
    version 70_470.
That install was constantly failing around 53% into the install (right around the
    klif cabinet).
It eventually passed that point and completed the installation.

Whether it was coincidental or not, that version was the first major Zone upgrade I performed after installing XP SP2.

Thanks George.I read some other posts that indicated Zone does not play well with other SW and removed SpyBot and McAfee... even went tot hepoint of removing just about any reference to the programs anywhere including the registry.
I still have XoftSpy SE and RegCure installed.
Thought they are not set to run.I may try installing a version 7 that is later then the 70_470 I have stored in a download folder.Zone techs keep telling me to manually remove and re-install.
I've tried the Zone uninstall with the &quot; /clean &quot; option and the result are the same following re-installation.. the same two failure pop-ups.The newest symptom:
Zone installs in Safe Mode but fails to start.
vsmon keeps re-appearing and disappearing from the task monitor.
When I shutdown and restart in Safe Mode a second time, Zone successfully starts. But when I try it in normal mode, the first reboot fails at my login prompt and auto-reboots.
I reboot using the last known good configuration and the system starts in normal mode.
However, Zone has the same signature.. vsmon won't start.
Shutdown and rebot into Safe Mode and Zone with start-up successfully???
Any ideas on what to try next?
I really do like the product (when I can get it installed) but my patience is running very thin.

Here is a Much simpler way to do a Clean UninstallHere is the link to a new ZA Uninstaller., just download it and click on it and follow the simple instructions..http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeThe simplest procedure to Reinstall ZA is to:1.Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browwserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire) ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html ZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAAS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html2. For example,Norton/Symantec, mcAfee, spyspweeper, spyware doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&amp;D, PC tools Threatfire, otherantivirus, antispyware, registry locking tools, etc...Here is a List of the Most common User problems..a.) The first thing a Hacker, Trojan or Virus tries to do if they infect your computer or gain access to your Computer, thru an Email Attachment or pop-up on a Website or user over-ridding the Security alerts by the firewall, is to shutdown, any Firewall, AV/AS.. That is why some users have problems updating ZoneAlarm or any other security program..vsmon.exe/TrueVector is the first thing that loads when your computer starts to boot up, the ZA tray Icon is just a Icon that loads later in the Boot-up process..and TrueVector /vsmon.exe is the last thing to shutdown when your computer shuts down to insure that your computer is always protected..That is why " if Load ZoneAlarm on startup in not Un-checked" and computer Rebooted, Truevector will stay in Memory and will not be removed during Install or Upgrade, in fact the install may fail because Truevector in an attempt to protect your computer will think that the New Install attempt to install a new version of Truevector may be a Hacker Attempting to shut down Truevector..That is why it is very Important to use the Un-Check "Start ZA on Startup" method so that a New Upgrade Copy of TrueVector/vsmon.exe can be installed..b.) some Computer Users thinkhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/th_1what.gif that if one Firewall and anti-Virus is good, two or three different ones running at the same time must be better? http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gif

I tried the info below and it was actually worse... I couldn't even get Zone to run in Safe Mode.
Here's what I did and info on the steps below:- Virus/spyware... yesterday I started the computer in safe mode with networking, started zone, checked for updates (none needed) then ran the virus and spyware checks.
The only thing found was a couple tracking cookies.- Prior to attempting another Zone install (all previous installs have appeared to be successful) I uninstalled the remaining security tools {uninstalled xoftspy, uninstalled regcure, reset xpAntiSpy to default settings and uninstalled it... deleted any remaining folders and most references to the products in the registry... left the references that pointed to where I downloaded the original install file for each).
Emptied the recycle bin and rebooted back into safe mode.- I downloaded the cpes_clean.exe file to a folder and later copied it to the desktop when in Safe Mode.- The latest version of ZASS was downloaded several days ago from the location you referenced
and even deleted and downloaded again to the desktop and other download folders.
I didn't use any sort of accelerator or download manager.. just clicked on the download.- At this point, I ran the cpes_clean.exe file and rebooted the system back into safemode.
(I followed the manual uninstall directions to see what differed... most actions were completed but there were a few that did not match the manual uninstall.. I left those as is).- Installed zone from the desktop and selected/accepted the default settings (no internet yet as that process wasn't running in safe mode.)- Upon reboot... zlclient started but nothing for vsmon.exe (as seen in task manager)- Restart.. but missed F8 and it attempted to start normal.
However, as usual, it failed and rebooted at the login prompt.- Caught the restart and came up in Safe Mode.- Start zone.. zlclient started and it appeared so did vsmon... however, and this was the first occurrence, the Program Error and DrWatson Fatal Error pop-ups appeared.
They previously only appeared for failures under normal start-up.
I tried a fwe more reboots and no cahnges.. couldn't get vsmon to start successfully in safe mode.Finally... I ran the Zone uninstall with the /clean, followed it with the cpes_clean then followed that with the manual uninstall.
Then reinstalled zone from the desktop in safe mode.
Zone didn't start after the initial reboot but did start successfully in safe mode after a second reboot into safe mode.
I deselected the Start ZA on startup, shutdown zone and rebooted back into safe mode.- After the reboot back into safe mode, I selected zone and it started properly.
I then shutdown zone and rebooted into last know good configuration (given it has always failed at the login prompt for every installation of version 8).- The system started fine.. so I opened the task manager and started zone... zlclient started, then vsmon started and memory usage climbed up to just over 16,000k then dropped and the process disappeared along with receiving the usual Program Error and Dr Watson Fatal Error pop-ups..A tvDebug.log was created.
    Is it of any use?
I sent a copy of a previous one to the zone techs and have know idea whether they reviewed it or just told me the standard... remove and re-install.
I've spent over 40 hrs trying to get
    version 8
to run in normal mode... and I'm supposed to be on vacation.
