Default Same Problem => Possible Reason

I am struggling with the same problem.
ZA works fine with the Administrator where I installed ZA, but fails with the same error message.

I have now tracked down the problem, and it seems that the problem is due to read protection on the files and subdirectories of
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs.
ZLClient is trying to read from there and fails.

Hope this helps to resolve this issue with the next release.

Regards,
Kurt

Hi!please note that ZA does not monitor this board, we are all users here.To report to ZA you need to write to: www.zonealarm.com/tsform Btw, the directory is not 'read only' checked.The read onlybox can have three different status:Green box: UndeterminedChecked: read onlyUnchecked: NormalThe folder at install is usually greened = NOT read onlyCheers,Fax

OK, thanks for the info fax. I will do so.

Nevertheless, fact with my installation is that the files and the directories in
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ZoneLabs
are all 'READ PROTECTED'.

When I try to rad the files with File Explorer I get the failure 'ACCESS DENIED'.
The sames happens to ZLCient.
For ZLClient I have checked this with FILEMOM.exe from Sysinternals.
Specifically it's the file fbl.dll.

Reproduceable!

Hi!on install ZA does NOT readonly check that folder.So, I am sure ZA will not work correctly with read only checked directory since it is not the way it install by default.Please do not post a new message if related to an existing thread.Thank you,Fax

I checked C:\Windows\System32\zonelabs directory and it is marked as "READ ONLY" and when I try to remove the attribute, I get "ACCESS DENIED"

Default Solution

First of all the solution which worked for me:

1) Deinstall ZA
2) Delete the directories:
* C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs
* C:\Program Files\ZoneLabs
* C:\WINDOWS\system32\Zonelabs

The solution was based on those described at
http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...ssage.id=84039

The Cause:
The main cause seemed to be that from the previous installation the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\Zonelabs had an owner different to ADMIN but with Admin rights. Also the acess rights where set to ADMIN and SYSTEM.
Therefore no other user could access the files and ZLClient failed for other users.
With the deletion and after reinstalling the Users and permissions where set properly and now it works fine again.

Thanks for the help, and might this help someone also.
