    George, can you please clarify something, as the thread of update releases is somewhat confusing? Let me be very specific:

    I am running ZAP 8.0.020.000 with:
    TrueVector security engine version 8.0.020.000
    Driver version 8.0.020.000
    Anti-spyware engine version 5.0.202.0, DAT file version 01.200903.5605

    When my ZAP starts, it tells me there's an update, and points me to download zapSetup_80_298_000_en.exe.

    However, when I check http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html, it explicitly tells me &quot;For release histories that apply specifically to products used on the Windows Vista platform, go here.&quot;

    When I go &quot;there&quot; (http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html), it tells me that &quot;The latest ZoneAlarm Pro release [for Vista] is 8.0.020.000.&quot;

    So, I don't understand ... if I read this thread correctly [and I may be missing something], you're telling tmskas to upgrade to 8.0.298.000 ... yet, the Website is saying that 8.0.020.000 is the latest Vista release. [Which is pretty weird, given it is seven months old.]

    The bottom line is: which is the latest Vista release of ZAP? the one indicated on the Website? or the one indicated in this thread? ... and, if the latter, then why is the Website incorrect?!

    Thank you for your expertise.

    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>My apologies! You have found a Typo on the Vista ReleasedHistory Pages..You can use the WinXP listed Installer to Install 8.0.298.000 on Vista.. 32-Bit or 64-Bit..

    1.)I found out that someone from Marketing does the information Updates on the Released History page, and have nor had the time to Update the Vista or Free ZA pages..2.) The good news is that Begining with ZA Version 8.0, all updates are now Multi-platform, and the same installer will Install on either WinXP Sp3, or Vista Sp1
    The simplest procedure is to :1.Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browwserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire) ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAX http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --&gt; Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4.) Now use the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool: Click here &gt; http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeSave to desktop, right click and "run as administrator"This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

    Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions.
    (you can un-install without net connections)5.) Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Please note that ZASS and ZAXdo not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZASS/ZAX issues remove them and install back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example,Norton/Symantec, McAfee,Spyspweeper, Spyware Doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&amp;D, PC tools Threatfire, otherantivirus, antispyware, Registry Guard or locking tools, etc...---------------------------------------

    Wow! You are very fast - THANK YOU!

    I'm glad we clarified that ... though it surprises me that nobody has hit on this till now. I discovered this when I accidentally trashed everything because mu auto-update feature in ZAP installed 8.0.059.000 ... which didn't work on Vista, and so I laid off any further updates until I could see a new branch added on that link - but your Marketing guy's have evidently been asleep at the wheel. Maybe an indication that this process should be automated, as part of release management? ...

    ... anyway, I hear what you say, GeorgeV, and have just one further clarification to ask. Namely, you indicate, &quot;This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.&quot; So, does that mean I will lose all my customized settings in my current setup? E.g. preferences, program TRUST classifications, etc?

    And is there no way around this? It seems very brutal, as in, not a very user-friendly upgrade.

    However, what concerns me more, and has me very puzzled, is this:

    -if the tool removes all ZA products ...
    -then it removes my version of ZAP
    -I would then have to re-install from my original purchased download, and re-apply all updates
    -but this would get me back to the exact same place/problem, would it not?

    Please help me understand that, so I can keep my ZAP product up to its most current potential.

    Many thanks for your expertise!

    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>Not to worry..1.) A Clean Install or Upgrade is a good thing IMHO,I prefer this method, as it insures all the deadwood and possible Corrupted settings etc, will start out Fresh or corrected if corrupted or mis-configured..2.) If you want to Save your old Setting, All Paid version of ZoneAlarm have a Backup Feature located in Overview, Preferences..3.) However, If you Change from ZAP to ZA Security Suite, or ZA Extreme, then a Clean Install in recomended and do not Restore your Backed up Setting from a Different Version of zoneAlarm as this may Corrupt the New features of the New Install..4.) I do not Recoment Re-installing from the original purchased Download and Apply all the Updates..as long as your ZAP License Key is Valid, I recommend Downloading the Latest version of ZAP and install it..Save Time and reduces the chance of Corrupting your Install..

    Ok ... we're done! Nice instructions, GeorgeV!

    Some feedback on the process ...

    To your first point: &quot;1.) A Clean Install or Upgrade is a good thing IMHO, I prefer this method, as it insures all the deadwood and possible Corrupted settings etc, will start out Fresh or corrected if corrupted or mis-configured..&quot; ... and, upon reflection, I concur. (I admit that I simply detest wasting my time having to &quot;reset stuff&quot;, because software developers today are sloppy ... and, yes, that's the prejudice of an old-timer software guy showing:-) I started life writing UNIX device drivers back in the late 70's, so I'm afraid that nit-picky aspect of my persona is here to stay.)

    So, I did the complete wipe-and-install-fresh, as you had outlined. All went well ... until the program scan part, where I got an error window about &quot;ccL80U.dll was not found&quot; and so the &quot;current step cannot finish&quot; or some such, but, in fact, everything finished ok. In fact, better than ok ... ZAP came up with my license settings all fine, i.e. it &quot;remembered me&quot;, as a full-license customer ... must keep the details buried in the registry, even after the remove-all guy does his thing.

    Speaking of registry, I checked after the remove-all guy, and the ZAMailSafe key was still around ... so, I removed it, just to be safe (and I see it back now, just like before).

    To your second point: &quot;2.) If you want to Save your old Setting, All Paid version of ZoneAlarm have a Backup Feature located in Overview, Preferences..&quot; Duh! Of course! And I had been doing this regularly, but, on moving to Vista, it became less necessary, as ZA just worked better. (Yes, hard to believe ... but true!) So, I did save my settings ... however, in considering the wisdom of your closing comment, &quot;Save Time and reduces the chance of Corrupting your Install..&quot;, I decided against immediately restoring the settings.

    Rather, I let ZAP re-learn my apps environment. Took only five reboots to get it to come up clean, without a single intrusion asking for ALLOW/DISALLOW! Excellent.

    So, in summary, I THANK YOU PROFUSELY, GeorgeV, for your insights. I am now upgraded, and hope to stay that way with less pain into the far future.

    Kudos to you - well done!
