Default ZoneAlarm Extreme Security Trial will not install correctly on my Vista 32 Toshiba Laptop

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D Laptop running Vista32 with ALL the latest MS updates installed.AMD 64 X2 Athelon Dual Core Processor TK-57 1.90 Ghz3 GB Ram250 GB HDD - C: (main partition) 16 GB Free after install
I have tried to install this twice now.
Each time after the process is complete, it reboots for the first time and has a good 15 minutes to sit and get comfortable, the tray icon still says "Protection Up, UI Initializing."
If I right click or left click, nothing.
If I go to the Start Menu, ZA folder and try to start it there, nothing.
So I go to Uninstall it, and after I select Uninstall...the UI comes up...?
Then it appears to act normally...until I reboot.
Then another weird thing is that I selected the Max protection with all the bells and whistles.
But when the UI does come up it says that the Virus Scanning is not enabled.
So I hit "Fix It"...nothing happens.
Then I go into the Anti-Virus and Spyware config and see that Anti-Virus is off and GRAYED OUT, but Anti-Spyware is on.
So I hit the link in blue below the Anti-Virus on/off switch and it wants to update Anti-Spyware???
So I let it.
Then when it's done it wants to scan, so I let it.
When it's done, AV is still off and grayed out, AS is on and updated.
Everything else about your software looks good.
I like the way it behaves and gives me some control, also it seems to remove itself well when asked.
I want to believe it's promise of Extreme Security but so far it won't even install without drawing the Windows so small it can't even display the text completely, I have to resize it every time (complaint #3)
Please tell me you have a patched or cleaner edition?

Hi,
my hubby has the same laptop as you bought 2 weeks ago and he had the same problem as you.

After installing and uninstalling about 8 times we gave up and,
the money has been refunded and has now bought another security system on a 30 day free trial which installed with no problems.
I received some good advice on this forum from GeorgeV and if you check through the pages and find his messages he does offer some solutions, but sadly they did not work for us.
Good luck.

Thank you for your advice.
What system did you go to?
Also, when it does do a scan it has detected stuff that other scanners did not.
So I really want this to work.
But if I can't get it to load right, then it does me little good and just wastes my time.
Thanks for your reply.

http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It sounds like your ZA Database may be corrupted.

ZA has incorparated a new way to Reset DataBase files so users don't need to go into Safe mode.

To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make
note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together then

2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot
