Default ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm AV

Previously, I purchased and installed ZoneAlarm Pro.
I (mistakenly) purchased McAfee AV, and was not happy with the way it literally took over my system, causing many problems when it came to compatability.
This week, I purchased ZA AV, and realized ZA AV also came with the ZA Firewall component installed.
Albeit a less robust firewall when it comes to features I've enjoyed utilizing ZA Pro, my question is can I install my ZoneAlarm Pro to override the firewall in ZoneAlarm AV without suffering serious repercussions?
Thanking you in advance for any assistance you may render.

Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
Software Version:8.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Antivirus

Hi!No, you can only install one ZA product a time.As far as I know ZA AV firewall is the same as the ZA Pro Firewall, so you should not loose much.Cheers,Fax

http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..

ALL Versions of ZoneAlarm contain a Firewall, and can not be Installed over the Previous version unless they are the same Flavor.

Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software Firewalls at the same time. <HR>Just One, Not Two -- Never use two Anti-virus products at the same time.

some Computer Users thinkhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...2/th_1what.gif that if one Firewall and Anti-Virus is good, two or three different ones running at the same time must be better?That is very Bad, They will Block or Conflict with each other, resulting in Less Securityhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gif

6.)- have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZoneAlarm firewall product. when you use ADD/Remove to Remove any of Symantec Norton utilities, especially their Norton Anti-Virus program,or McAfeethey still leave lots of traces behind after the "UNINSTALL"Fortunately SYMANTEC has a Fix for this problem on the Symantec web site called "NORTON REMOVAL TOOL" that does a better job of REMOVING ALL traces of Norton Symantec files..here is the Link to the Symantec Norton Removal Tool..http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...ent&amp;seg=hmHere is the Link to the McAfee Removal Tool..http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe=========================It looks like your Have Corrupted your Installed ZA files..The simplest procedure is to :1.Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire) (MultiPlatform,installer will install on Both WinXP and Vista)ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlZAX http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --&gt; Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4.) Now use the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool: Click here &gt; http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeSave to desktop, right click and "run as administrator"This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions.
(you can un-install without net connections)5.) Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..

I find the whole episode I experienced as ironic. I painstakenly remove every trace of McAfee AV because of incompatibility issues that I got sick and tired of tweeking with, only to find out that ZoneAlarm Pro and Zonealarm AV are incompatible.
What I was I thinking? Is combining
ZA Pro with ZA AV that far-fetched?
Instead, I'm presented with a one way installation with a firewall issue that ZoneAlarm itself considers a &quot;downgrade.&quot;

I disagree with ya, Fax.
I did lose something. I either forego my two year subscription for ZoneAlarm Pro or urinate away the $33 I just paid for a one year subscription to ZA AV.
Anybody have a good suggestion for a firewall product and
AV product that's somewhat compatible?

ZoneAlarm AV appears to be a ripoff in my situation, with this in-house proprietary issue that won't let you choose installation issues of one grade of ZA Firewall over the other. I also lost another thing, Fax...respect for ZoneAlarm's software engineers.
Thanks for answering my question so succinctly, Fax. I appreciate it.
Thanks to GerogeV too.
What's the &quot;V&quot; stand for? Verbose??
Only kidding....

Nebular, please click here for ZA Customer Service - &gt; You can open up a two-way &quot;live service chat&quot; with Customer Service - click here &gt;Customer Service Live Chat
&lt; click here<hr>Explain your situation about having just bought ZA AV, while still having ZA Pro - under the assumption you still want ZA AV - &quot;you can make a lateral move/ change&quot; in subscription. Give them your 2 year/ license key ZA Pro + new ZA AV key; &quot;ask them if they can allocate/ add
the 2 years of ZA Pro (change to ZA AV)
to the new ZA AV.
All is not lost; ZA wants to keep good paying customers - they will/ may
offer 'an agreeable offer.'<hr>If all you wanted is a good firewall plus anti-virus in one package without frills, get ZA AV - it will get the job done.Click here &gt; http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en...s-software.htm
and here is the comparison chart explaining the full line of ZA - click here &gt;
http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en...e-software.htm
ZA Pro and ZA AV can not be combined - with ZA AV you still get an advanced firewall plus anti-virus
(by Kaspersky av).<hr><hr>If you choose to 'go with' ZA AV - please 'properly' un-install ZA Pro first before installing ZA AV.<hr>You can try this: just prior to new downloading attempt, on your current/ old
ZA
&gt; go to &quot;Overview&quot; &gt; Preferences &gt; General - &quot;uncheck the box for&quot; = 'Load ZoneAlarm at startup' &gt; click once, wait - it may take a few
seconds for it to register, but it will clear the box.[*]
Please restart/ reboot. &lt;[*][*]&gt;
Now, download and install your new version/ upgrade. Unloading the current/ old version will ensure less conflicts between the old version and new version; after install you will have to re-start your pc. { This is a Super Tip - that will help prevent some 'true vector issues/ vsmon.exe' on upgrades/ updates }<hr>

Try the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool, link below:
Click here &gt; http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe
Save to desktop, right click and &quot;run as administrator&quot;
This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions.
<hr>There are other 'un-install instructions' - some involve more steps. You may choose which ever you find comfortable to use; thou using the 27+ step un-install instructions may prove more reliable.[*]Click here &gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...ssage.id=86306[*]or here &gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...=149802#M19199 <hr>Under this direction, if things went well you will have added your time with a smaller
$ lose . <ul>

{ my take: ZA does have the best firewall. If you want
the best
firewall + good anti-virus = ZA AV}

{ If you choose to go/ stay
ZA Pro plus outside anti-virus, post back &gt; 'we
can suggest
some 'free' third party av's that are compatible with ZA Pro. But still call ZA Customer Service and then get refund for your recent ZA AV purchase or you can seek/ &quot;other&quot; reasonable 'lateral' move. }
