    This is the fix suggested for the download and install problem for Windows XP Pro 32bit. Since I cannot get my anti-virus download, the anti-spyware fails, too. I will be trying this later when I log onto the other machine. As I am very busy, I don't know when I will get back to this site. So, try this--------

    Now, to the biggest problem with my Windows XP Pro 32bit machine.
    I have not been able to update either the
    anti-virus or anti-spyware since April 4th. Yesterday, I tried twice and it
    ran for 13+MB and then stopped downloading. The connection is not dropped,
    it just stopped receiving DAT files for ZAISS 8.0.298.000. So, since I cannot
    get the anti-virus update, I cannot receive the anti-spyware update. I tried
    disabling the automatic update on this machine as I did on the Vista 64bit
    but it made no difference.
    The odd thing is that the same problem in both version 8.0.298.000 and
    8.0.298.035 started at the same time on the two different machines. Up to
    that time, both had worked perfectly. On the Vista Home Premium 64bit
    computer the newer version was reinstalled and still did not work but just
    seemed to fix itself. I shut down auto update and got the newest
    anti-spyware and the next time I manually updated the anti-virus it
    downloaded 4 MB and has worked great ever since. The anti-virus DAT File
    version is 982543691 and anti-spyware 01.200904.5745. I only have to click
    the update button each day.
    Here is some data on the problem computer.
    Dell Dimension 8400
    Windows XP Professional 32bit
    2GB RAM
    250GB Hard Drive
    US Robotics external dial up modem
    ZAISS version 8.0.298.000 (I know there is an update for this but this
    should be fixed first)
    True Vector engine version 8.0.298.000
    Driver Version 8.0.298.000
    Anit-virus engine version 6.0.2.678--DAT File version 915051681
    Anti-spyware engine version 5.0.209.0--DAT File version 01.200904.5665
    AntiSpam version 6.0.0.1429
    ZA response----Please see if cleaning your startup programs allows for the download of the updates to complete.

    1.) Click Start -> Run

    NOTE: If you do not have the Run option on the Start menu, you can press and hold the Windows logo key and tap the letter R .

    2.) Type Msconfig in the run box
    3.) Click OK
    4.) Once in Msconfig, click the Startup Tab, and remove the checks from everything except Zlclient.exe.
    5.) Click the Service Tab, place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services." Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet Monitor
    6.) Click OK
    7.) Restart your computer and see if it works.
    8.) If it works, go back into Msconfig and place checks back in five or so at a time and restart, so you can narrow down what is causing the conflict.

    This will
    close this installment, I used the msconfig instructions and the last service I restarted was "DSBrokerService" and it was the conflicting service. Since the computer was a Dell Dimension 8400, this was a Dell Support service of some kind. I tried to get more information on it at Dell and Google but I am no wiser about its purpose than when I began. However, it is no longer running and I am able to get my anti-virus and anti-spyware updates (automatically or manually)
    for ZAISS. I hope this is the end of the issue. If this helps someone else, all the better. Take care.
