Default fixing vsutil.dll - still can't redownload ZA free

Hi ZA,
XP Home - 2002
service pack 3Dell Dimension 8100768 ram (unable to add more)
I downloaded the 15-day free trial for the paid version, but it was too much for my dinosauric compt
so I followed the instructions to uninstall ZA in Safemode (from Customer Care) so I could reinstall the Free. I had to reinstall the vsutil.dll because it was "incorrectly configured", which had been preventing me from updating anyway. I hoped that this would solve that problem too.
I am still not able to get past the vsutil.dll
Issues in CC instructions:
I could not delete vsdatant.sys - it wasn't there to deleteI could not delete vsinit.dll - it wasn't there to delete
Fixing the Root Certificates worked ok.
I did Step 4 when I came upon the same original problem
- "run backup root certificate repair utility" and tried again to install ZA Free.
I still can't get past the vsutil problem. Now I have NO ZA. I would prefer to stay with ZA and not depend on the Windows firewall! I am frustrated; I have been at this for 3.5 hours today and the last couple days trying to redownload vsutil.dll from other websites!
I tried finding answers here
before I posted. Please help!Karips I have no idea what they mean by software version - so I clicked anything to be able to post.

Thank you Guru George for your help, but, the problem still exists with no change. (Thanks for the clarification of "software version&quot

I had already tried downloading the link you supplied but
to no avail,
and tried it again just now anyway. This time, I copied the message I received:
Cannot load DLL library C:\DOCUMEN~l\MSOWNE~l\LOCALS~l\Temp\052809181856\v sutil.dllThis application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstall the application may fix the problem
This is when I went looking for another dll to download, then when that didn't work, I went to ZA and followed their customer service intructions as mentioned above.
I will try anything else you have to suggest :8}

OK You made it this far..But it looks like you have a BAD Install that is preventing any further install..A.) Now you need to do a Complete Full Clean Uninstall of ALL Remnents of ZoneAlarm, befor you can Re-install a successful re-Install..Try this..This applies to

All ZoneAlarm products
Windows 2000/XP

Summary

I need to completely remove ZoneAlarm, or there are remnants of
ZoneAlarm on my system

Solution

If possible, first try to uninstall ZoneAlarm normally from your Start ->
Programs -> ZoneAlarm menu. If this fails, or you want to ensure that all
ZoneAlarm files were removed from the system properly, continue with the
steps below.

Please make sure that you have the latest version downloaded first:

Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire,BitTorrent)
ZAFree
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html

01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
10.) Click OK
11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder (if present), click Delete, and choose
Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
> ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
possible.

14.) Close this window
15.) Click Start, My Computer
16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder (if present), click Delete, and choose

regedit. Choose OK, and use the folders on the left side of the Registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Try to install the latest version again

Sorry, that did not work for you..in that case I can think of Only three reasons for Failure..1.) You have a Virus/Trojan infection on your computer that is Blocking the install of ZoneAlarm..2.) you have Other Security Software installed that is Conflicting with or Blocking ZoneAlarmThat is very Bad, They will Block or Conflict with each other, resulting in Less Securityhttp://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o.../th_1mad-1.gif

Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software Firewalls at the same time.
Just One, Not Two -- Never use two Anti-virus products at the same time. 3.) You Computer does not like zoneAlarm?Normally I would Refer you to Tech Support, But that Service is not FREE for users of the Free product..Sorry,Good Luck..---------------------------------------
