Default ZASS 8 Install Fails Early - despite clean unstall

I reluctantly decided to try to upgrade from ZASS 7.0.483. I had learned from my problems with that upgrade to start by unchecking the "load at startup" box, booting into safe mode, doing a " /clean /rmlicense" uninstall, following the procedures in Message 103 to search for and delete the specified za files, emptying the recycle bin, and running "zabegone.reg"

Despite that, and after booting into safe mode to do the ZASS install, the installation had barely started before a box popped up saying "Could not load DLL library C:\.......\vsutil.dll . This application has failed to start because application configuration is incorrect."

Since I had gone to the Setup file download via the update button in my ZASS7, I assumed that my clean uninstall had made that the wrong file to use and went directly to ZA website and downloaded the 15-day trial version. I redid the Message 103 procedures and tried to install from this new download (in safe mode). I received the same message.

I then repeated the Message 103 steps and reinstalled ZASS 7.0.483.000, without any problems, and reinstalled my saved settings (and of course reupdated).

Since I had been downloading with firefox, I used internet explorer to again download the 15-day trial version. I then compared in DOS the IE download file with the firefox download file, using both the "comp" command and the "fc /b" command. The files are identical.

Thanks for the prompt reply George.

I believe I had done everything you suggested, with 3 exceptions.

First, I had not uninstalled SpybotS&D, which for me does not load at startup. It had never been a problem before.

Second, I used the list of files and folders to remove which is in Message 103, last edited by the Forum-Moderator 09-13-2006. His procedure was to have users copy the list into the windows search box and delete them where-ever found, so that would assumedly cover the system32, temp and prefetch folders. HOWEVER your list of files includes 8 files not on the Message 103 list. I will have to merge the lists and try again.

For those of us who are not familiar with editing the registry, Message 103 had us copy into Notepad, and save as "zabegone.reg", and then run the following:
    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ZAMailSafe]

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Zone Labs]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs]

    [-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Zone Labs]

These have brackets, minus signs and only one is the same as on your list of three. Could your list be made into such a file?

    Thanks
