For others who need to know, when I tried to uninstall the ZA Security Suite it gave me the option of either uninstalling it OR moving to ZA basic (free) and retain my settings. Selecting that second option made it uninstall certain elements and apparently move to ZA free.

Except no ZA icon appeared in the task bar! Maybe because I have XP's firewall on? Don't know.

Thank you for your hand holding. I appreciate it.

It took 2 tries to get ZA Security Suite to uninstall. Finally it did but not cleanly as it left its name entry in XP's Add/Remove panel. Pretty ugly.

Anyway, I did uninstall it and reinstalled ZA free (after disabling XP's firewall). So I am back to just resetting it according to my past records.

Incidentally, where are the settings kept? I have backups that could be helpful.

Not normal, never seen this before... at this point you should have:1. Run the ZA removal tool:http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe2. Run ccleanerand clean the system, registry and remove the ZA entry in XP add/remove (ccleaner --> tools --> Uninstall --> Delete entry)3. Only now installing back ZAfree

There should be no need of turning off XP firewall, ZA should turn it off automatically. XP firewall should be OFF if ZA is installed.

ZA settings are stored here: C:\Windows\Internet LogsBut you can't use the xml backup file. ZAfree cannot restore nor backup the settings.Cheers,Fax
