Default Should I uninstall Windows Defender before installing ZoneAlarm Extreme Security?

Windows Vista, Home Premium, SP 1
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 8.0.400.20

Hi
I've been reading some posts about using Windows Defender with ZA, and I'm confused!

Some posts say using WD with ZA is fine
Other posts say using WD with ZA can cause problems
Other posts say that WD is not very good at what it does anyway

So I was wondering if the safest thing to do might be to uninstall Windows Defender before installing ZoneAlarm Extreme Security?

Is WD just anti-spyware, or does it do more than that?
Won't ZA be providing that function anyway?

Thanks for any help!

Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
Software Version:8.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Extreme Security

I tried installing ZAES WITHOUT uninstalling Windows Defender.

ZAES Control Center has green ticks for ALL options: ie Firewall Security, Anti-virus/Anti-spyware, and Browser Security

BUT Windows Security Center has 2 red bars:

1. Firewall bar - it says Firewall is OFF. It doesn't even mention ZAES.
** shouldn't this be GREEN and "ON"?? **

2. Malware protection - it says ZAES is "Not compatible" - "ZAES is on, but reporting its status in format that is no longer supported"
** shouldn't this be GREEN and "ON"?? **

Is this the expected (ie correct) behaviour?

===

I also have ZAES installed on a Win XP Pro, SP2 PC.
On this PC the Windows Security Center has GREEN for everything, as you'd expect.
1. Firewall bar - ON - "ZAES is currently ON"
2. Virus Protection - ON - again it says ZAES is handling it.

===

Have ZoneAlarm just lost the plot?
They've had AGES to get ZA working properly with Vista.
What's going on?!

You should consider updating to XP SP3

NOTICE: No Security Software run on WinXP Sp2 can protect you from the Windows Security Flaws found in Windows SP2 that were Fix with Windows SP3, until you upgrade to SP3.

Default Re: Windows Security + ZA = firewall is off?

Under normal circumstances ZA firewalls will automatically 'disable' windows firewall when it is installed but, on some rare occasions (in XP or Vista) the windows firewall is "actually" still running even though the Windows Securty Center says "it's off" -
you will see yellow/ red
alert, it will say you are "running two or more firewalls" and not list "ZoneAlarm" as firewall.
One
Solution: search and open 'Windows Services'
> find 'Windows Firewall' and
in "Status" column > right click and "Stop/ disable."
Go back to Windows Security Center and re-check; should now 'be green' and eventually list ZoneAlarm as firewall. (may need to re-start pc)
Also click here > http://forums.zonealarm.org/zonelabs...d=95430#M15893 < for more solutions.
Additional Thoughts to Consider: remember to 'properly un-install' any pre-installed 'security software' (firewall and/ or antivirus) before attempting to install any new ZoneAlarm firewall.

and click here > http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...ssage.id=73645
My personal experience: just got a new Vista pc to replace 'broken XP.' Installed ZA Pro and had similar 'yellow/ red' alert about firewall and no ZA listed. Enacted the above solution and it works. (And of course 'properly un-installed the original pre-installed McAfee security before installing ZoneAlarm.)
NaiveMelody NYC - 7-19-09 - Just Dance - Lady Gaga

I myself do not use Windows Defender.I don't thing there would be a problem with it.I did a search of the boards and I see what your talking about.

Your best bet it to try Live Chat and get the information from the horse's mouth.
