Default Firewall Zones - help Guru Fax et al!

    Hi there,

I have uninstalled my previous version of ZoneAlarm (8.298.035) and installed the latest version of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite (8.400.020).

Under the Firewall heading in "Zones" there are only two enteries, whereas in my previous version of ZoneAlarm, I remember there were about four enteries. I remember some headings saying DNS and DHCP servers? Now I just have two enteries, one being the loopback adapter and the other being the New Network. When I installed the latest version of ZoneAlarm, when it detected the new network, I placed it into Internet Zone. Have I done something wrong during the installation process?

Also - am I still protected? Is there anything to be concerned about with regards to what Zones are listed?

    Thanks,
    Stormsy.

    Operating System:
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:
    8.0
    Product Name:
    ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

    Stormsy,
Too bad you didn't save your configuration from before

Your old entries source is here:
Start, Run, type cmd and hit enter
    type ipconfig /all
that'll give you the DHCP and DNS IPs to enter into the ZA zones tab, as trusted.
When ZA detects new network and said network is your ISP, you can make it trusted. If hotspot, wireless, make it internet.

Ooooops! I'm not Guru Fax, and I can't delete this message even though is mine.

    Thankyou for your relpies all,

I remember unticking a box in the installation window box that said "Automatically configure my network settings". Could that explain why the DNS and DCHP servers were not listed in the Firewall Zone List?

If it comes to it, I will just re-install ZoneAlarm all over again and leave that box ticked next time...

Thanks again for your help, all of you!

    Stormsy.

    In Firewall / Main

    Internet Zone Security
    Set Internet Zone on High

    Trusted Zone Security
Set your trusted zone security on Medium

    Firewall / Zones

    Set Network to Trusted Zone.

To add DNS/DHCP Servers to Firewall / Zones : How to use ipconfig /all at this link :

    http://forums.zonealarm.org/zonelabs...=116532#M75877

You could also do a Reset if you don't want to do it manually :

    This way:
1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

    Do not restore old settings.

On 2nd boot when you see New Network Found, select allow into Trusted Zone.Check to make sure DNS, DHCP, and
Loopback adapter are all in Trusted Zone.

    Hope this helps

I have no other suggestion other than this to resolve your issue.
