    Default messengers acting as servers

Hi guys, I'm using the free version of the firewall by itself.
Great product, back on it again, after learning xp-sp2's firewall won't do it alone.
Question is, Ill get Yahoo messenger try to act as a server, that's what ZA is asking me, whether or not I should permit it.
    I don't.
What exactly is the messenger trying to do as a server?
Allow yahoo to run a part of itself on my computer?
    Thanks guys.

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)
    Software Version:6.0

Default Re: messengers acting as servers

It is normal for messenger programs to request 'server' rights. They all are programmed to do so whether it is need or not. I use MSN Messenger and it requests server rights which I grant when and only when I'm using voice & video chats. It really depends on what you are doing. Just instant messaging does not require server rights, but in my case video does. So my recommendation is to not allow server rights unless what you're trying to do won't work without them.
