Default "Show Alert when Internet Access is Denied" Not working?

What is supposed to be the effect when "Show Alert when Internet Access is Denied" is enabled in "Advanced program settings | Alerts & Functionality" ?
I don't think I've ever seen an alert that says a program has been blocked by ZA.Should I be getting an alert, for instance, because of Program expert rules I've added, a program cannot connect to an address?
I've added 2 rules for a FTP pgm:1st rule allows Source: My Computer to Destination: an IP address2nd rule blocks everything.
Using the FTP pgm, when I attempt to connect to an address that is not in the 1st rule above, the connection fails, but there is no Alert from ZA!

    Operating System:Windows 98-SE (Second Edition)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro

If you go to the alerts and logs section, main tab and click the advanced button, you have control over what programs will give you an alert.

    Ok, thanks Hoov.

I noticed that ZA gives an alert about pgm access being blocked only when "Alert Events shown" is set to HIGH.

So, it seems, to have ZA give alerts about unplanned
pgm access being blocked, I also have to live with getting alerts about every ping that comes my way!?

It's a balancing game. You can turn off some of the alerts. Just play with the settings until you can live with it.
