Default Zone Alarm + DLink Media Server = Blue Screen

    Hi,
I use a DLink DSM 320 media streamer to play music and video on my TV. It is fed media from the DLink Media Server software. Ever since I upgraded from Norton Internet Security to ZA, a few minutes into every movie, my PC blue-screen crashes with various errors (it is different each time). I have tried granting DLink Media Server "Super" trusted level with everything ticked in Program Control, I have also switched off the firewall for my trusted zone (which the DSM 320 is in) to no avail. The only thing that fixes it is shutting down ZoneAlarm Security suite completely. There seems to be something fundamentally incompatible between these two software products when a movie is playing.

I have all the latest ZA updates and the DLink Media Server is v1.05.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Brendan

    Hi brendanh,

"PERHAPS" I can help you, as I am a user of Zone Alarm Pro. First of all, you need to make sure you REMOVED all the Norton's files from your computer. PLEASE go to the following link and run the removal tool to get rid of Norton's.

    Using the Norton uninstall tool

I can't run that as I currently use Norton SystemWorks which I want to keep. I don't think this would fix it anyway because DLink Media Server never had a problem with NIS.

    Hi brendanh,

First of all, in your first post you mentioned you had Norton's Internet Security, then the recent post, you have Norton's System Works.
But, you also have Zone Alarm Security Suite.
    Since Norton's Internet Security has a firewall/anti-virus in it's
program and Norton's System Works has anti-virus in it's program.
You can NOT run two firewalls or two anti-virus programs on the same computer, because you already have Zone Alarm Security Suite, which has a firewall/anti-virus in it. The only way I know around this problem is to get rid of Norton's Internet Security, making sure it's history out of your computer.
Keep Norton's System Works, but DON'T install the Anti-Virus program.
This way it should work with no conflicts.
    PLEASE keep me inform.

Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

I have Norton System Works but not the Anti-Virus component installed. I only use ZA for anti-virus.

    Hi brendanh,

You don't have your Windows Firewall turned on?
I've been looking through this forum for a solution, since you have a paid version of Zone Alarm, Tech Support will have to answer this question, hopefully a Guru or Expert will see your posts.
Here is the direct link to Zone Alarm Tech Support.
