Default PRINTING PROBLEM FOLLOWING INSTALLATION OF ZONEALARM

My computer runs WindowsXp Professional. Have recently taken up Pipex broadband service and as part of the package have download ZoneAlarm Anti-virus.
Everything was ok initially but have now developed a printing problem in that I can not print anything unless I shut down the anti-virus programme which rather negates having the anti-virus installed.
I have tried various things such as System Restore; re-installing the printer and searched for possible problems on the ZoneAlarm help page but not being highly technical as far as computers are concerned it may be that I am looking in the wrong place/s for a solution.
Does anyone have a simple solution for my problem.

    Hi,

Are you aware that Zone Alarm Anti-Virus has a firewall installed with it?
Plus, you are using Zone Alarm Free version.
They are both conflicting with each other.
    One has to go.
If it was me, I would get rid of the free version, as you mentioned your ISP gave you the Zone Alarm Anti-Virus program.
This could be your problem, if not PLEASE follow these instructions and hopefully it will solve your printing problem.

Did you give spoolsv.exe Access Rights at ProgramControl Programs?
Spoolsv.exe is a Microsoft Windows system executable which handles the printing process to your local printers.

    Open ZoneAlarm at your taskbar.

Go to Program Control Programs tab. Scroll down and have a look for spoolsv.exe. Give it Access rights with a mouse click.

A green check mark for Internet and Trusted Zone. You don't have to give it Server Rights.

Hope this info has helped you, if not PLEASE post back.

Thank you for your time and have a nice evening!

    Hi

    Many thanks for your reply.
Spoolsv is not shown in the list of programs under 'Program Control' but I clicked on the 'Add' button, which brought up a window titled 'Add Program' found the spoolsv in C:\Windows\System32\Spool but when I click on open nothing happens so what am I doing wrong?
Sorry if I appear a ignoramous but as I said in my original posting I am somewhat lacking on the technical side.
Hope you can nudge me a little further along.

    KInd regards

    Hi,

PLEASE look for the following in your Programs Control Panel, "Spooler Sub System". Give it Access rights with a mouse click.

A green check mark for Internet and Trusted Zone. You don't have to give it Server Rights.

Hope this info has helped you, if not PLEASE post back.

    Hi

Many thanks for coming back so quickly.
I was on the verge of mailing you back to let you know that I have resolved the problem through my next door neighbour.
I hadn't noticed that the printer status monitor was set at 'restricted'.
Having changed it to 'trusted' it now works fine.
They are in different shades of green so easy to overlook.
    Well, that's my excuse anyway.
Again many thanks and apologies for disturbing your evening.

OK,,,,,i just tried ur idea,,,and though i have everything marked that should b marked with a green check mark,,,,with ZA Pro still on,,,,i tried to print a page,,,,and AGAIN it would NOT let me print, so i dont know what u think all the check marks r doing, but,,,,it DID NOT let me print.

ALSO,,,,i am NOT using PRO & FREE at the same time,,,,,

I am using WINDOWS XP HOME,,,,and when i shut ZA OFF, it allows me to print

SOOOOOOOOO if u can come up with some other IDEA that will work with PRO,,,,let me know
