Default Deleting old files in \avsys\bases

The \windows\system32\avsys\bases folder grows to be very large with each day's updates.
Is there any reason not to delete files older than the current date?

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

I did delete them to see what would happen (keep up to date backups) and, as you thought, they all came back on next update - just all had today's date on them.
