Default CATASTROPHIC ZA FAILURE - SYSTEM LEFT OPEN TO ATTACK

ZONEALARM FAILED AND LEFT SYSTEM OPEN TO ATTACK FOR 14 HOURS !!!

The following error dialogue box was displayed by the OS:

    ------------------------------
    Microsoft C++ Runtime Library
    Program c:\windows\system32\Zonelabs\vsmon.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
    ------------------------------

ZA showed red for all protection items - nothing was protected.

ZONEALARM FAILED AND LEFT SYSTEM OPEN TO ATTACK FOR 14 HOURS

I submitted this as a trouble report to ZA but probably will not hear back from them, just as I did not hear back from them regarding ZA ISS processor hogging. Looks like this application is a piece of **bleep** and is not ready for prime time. Anyone out there encounter this problem and have a solution?

    Thanks,

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite
    Software Version:7.0

You'll probably get an answer from Zone Labs in 24 to 36 hours. In the meantime, I'd uninstall Zone Alarm and then install a fresh version. Go into the start menu locate the zonelabs entry and right click on the uninstaller and select properties. Now in the target box you must add a space and then /clean to the end so that it looks something like this "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean click apply and then OK. Next open ZA and turn off the load on boot option, then reboot and then run the uninstaller. This should get rid of all of ZoneAlarm. Now go to your windows temp folder and delete everything. Find the folder named Internet logs and delete it then empty your recycle bin.

    Bill:

Thanks for the response. I installed the produce only 4 days ago or so, so I am concerned that a generic "reboot and reinstall" will still leave a product installed with two design flaws:

    1. The C++ library abort described in this thread, leaving ZA disfunctional, and

    2. The 5 second periods of 100% processor utilization every 20 seconds (reported on a separate thread - search for "5 second&quot. I can not run this system as a graphic workstation with this behavior.

My confidence in ZA has been utterly decimated. I will wait 24 hours for ZA to respond.

    Thank you for your help.
