Default ZA causing high CPU usage?

Recently purchased ZA/ZA antivirus for XP. Noticed immediately on task manager that CPU usage is 100%, I let the system sit idle for 30 mins and it just stays at 100%. I shut down ZA and the system performs normally - i.e. CPU usage is back down below 10% at idle. I see that the following processes are all running at the top of CPU usage: VSMON.exe SCANNINGPROCESS.exe MONITOR.exe are these ZA processes, what is happening excatly?
    Thanks all.

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Antivirus
    Software Version:7.0

I have this exact problem execpt with the free zonealarm firewall. From what i can gather no one knows what causes it, but more importantly no one appears to know how to fix it! And customer support is just **bleep** as they will not even help you if you are running the free software, but considering this problem happens on ALL zonelabs products this seems strange...
