I had (or maybe have ZoneAlarm ) showing in my programs but the Icon that is suppose to be in the lower right corner by the clock is gone, for no reason that I can figure out. When I go to windows explorer it shows that Zone alarm is still there, but when I try to use zlclient.exe nothing happens. Is there away I can recover ZoneAlarm for Windows ME?

    Operating System:Windows ME

Hi pullingmyhairou and welcome to the forum!

It could be a corrupt ZA database. A removal of the ZA databse should fix this. Try this:

Boot your computer into the Safe Mode

Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder

Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder

    Clean the Recycle Bin

    Reboot into the normal mode

The Zone Alarm will be cleaned of all previous settings and data and it will appear as when it was first installed

How to get in to the Safe Mode:

    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

So the reboot into the Normal Mode should have the ZA in the proper state.

Then follow the advice in the Step 10 of this reply. It should help with the ZA and proper networking.

If that fails and the database does not work, then a reinstall is recommended. But use the " /clean" uninstall for times when there is something seriously wrong with the ZA.

    Like this:

    1. Start the PC in the Safe Mode.

    2. Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
RIGHT-click on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties
Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninstexe"
    Change it to:

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

(add a space and then the /clean )
Click OK to save the new command line.

    3. Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs Security
Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that pop up.
say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files and allow TrueVector to shut down.
    Reboot

    4. After rebooting, check for the following folders, and delete them if you find them:

"Internet Logs" (under your Windows Folder)

"Zone Labs" (under your Program Files folder)

"Zonelabs" (under your Windows System32 folder)
    Empty your recycle bin
    Reboot

    5. You could do an optional check for ZA remmants (not critical if the ZA was working fine, but things do go wrong occasionally)>

    6. Things should be clean and ready for the re-install, but to be a little more careful, a file/reg cleaner is always a good idea. Try CCleaner (freeware) from here>

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html

Give it a run and delete any junk. It is usually recommended to use CCleaner every week or so.

    7. Download the ZA Free version 6.1.744.001 (for the Windows ME OS) from here>

    http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...seHistory.html

    OR USE THIS DOWNLOAD URL>

    http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...744_001_en.exe

    8. Install the ZA

    9. After the required reboot from the install, select the "Trusted" Network. Let the ZA do any popups and alerts and OK and Allow and use the always or remember.

    10. Then do this to get the best network settings for the ZA. This should be done after the databse reset and noy just after a new install:

    1. Go to Run type in command, hit OK, and type ipconfig /all then press enter. In the returned data list will be a line DNS and DHCP Servers with the IP address(s) listed out to the side
    2. In ZA on your machine on the Firewall>Zones tab click Add and then select IP Address. Make sure the Zone is set to Trusted
    3. Click OK and then Apply for each one.
    4. The loopback must be listed as Trusted. It has the address of 127.0.0.1
5 The Generic Host Process or the svchost.exe listed in the Program list must have both Trusted and Internet access and it must have server rights for the Trusted Zone, but not the Internet Zone.

    11. Enjoy and hopefully this fixed everything.
