Default Reboot failure after ZA install

I can install ZA: Security Suite on my copy of windows XP Home
and run it perfectly, even running the anti virus works. However the first time I reboot after it installs I get an error message from windows.
"Winlogon.exe"Instruction at 0x7c8edfc referenced memory at 07c8edfc. The memory could not be "written". Press OK to Terminate program or cancel to debug.
It freezes and restarts before I have a chance to click anything.
If i restart and leave it at the Log-On page I get the same error but with "SVCHost" as the aplication that causes the error.
The only way I can fix it is by using system restore to before I installed ZA. Anyone have any ideas?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite
    Software Version:7.0

Hi!this sounds like a conflict with an installed application. This could be: spyware doctor, system mechanics, logitech devices (e.g. a webcam?), other protection tools (any of them? windows defender, adware, spybotS&D, etc), CPU monitoring tools...Do you have any of them? You could try to start selectively your system (i.e. only standard OS services and programs and ZA). This way:1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
    Monitor, and click OK.
8.) Restart your computerStill getting the error? You should not...
NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.
Also you can try this (in safe mode): Run ZASS manually --> go to overview --> preferences --> uncheck "Load ZA at startup", reboot... run ZASS manually.Do you still get the errors... if not, something at boot is conflicting with ZASS.Cheers,Fax

Tried selective startup but still the same problem. Had to use system restore again.

Strangley that solves it, very annoying as I have to load it manualy, but still at least it works.

Well, if it works... you may have missed something while unchecking with MSCONFIG...Do you have any of the listed conflicting software (listed in my initial e-mail)???To be more specific, your errors resamble a conflict with Logitech webcam or mouse.Fax

I had the same problem. Ended up fixing it by uninstalling ZA completely and then following these steps.
    Reboot computer.During reboot, press F8.Activate safe mode.Uninstall
    ZA.Reboot.During reboot, press F8.Activate safe mode.Install
    ZA.Reboot.
    All fixed.

I've had similar problems and am about to give up on ZASS.

As a software developer with over 25 years experience, my concern is that the need for all this messing about to get a piece of software to work tends to be indicative of fundamental flaws in the product.

So, just because you managed to get it to work today, don't be surprised if it fails tomorrow, or next week. And be ready for tears the next time you install a new piece of software.

After the rave reviews I keep reading about ZA, my real-world experience of the product has been very disappointing.

    Regards,

    Andy

Yea.. it happens to some people. Usually happens to software developers first though. Sorry it finally happened to you.
I've actually used the software for a couple of years and only encountered minor problems along the way. I'm in good shape now and would still recommend to non-software developers.
    Good luck to you!

Ok i followed srburk's instructions and still no joy. I dont have a webcam or Logiteck mouse and the only other Anti virus software I had was AVG and I un-installed that before I installed ZA.
