Default ZA blocking system time synchronization via internet

How can I allow the time clock to access the internet and synchronize the time?
I see where ZA has blocked this from happening in the Alerts and Logs area under Progam access, but I don't see a place to allow it to happen or to unblock it.

Operating System:Windows XP Pro
Software Version:7.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Hi! You will not see it in the programs list. It's run by svchost service. When you get an alert, you can allow it and ask ZA to remember the answer.

If you could list the IP addresses ZA shows in the alert log, someone might pinpoint a problem whereby, perhaps, you're not going to a legitimate (safe) time server. Just a thought. Here are two good ones:
time.nist.gov
time-a.nist.gov

I finally got it to work using the time-a.nist.gov server last week, but
today of course, it times out. So, I'm not sure what's going on there.
I set it to automatically synchronize the time every so often, but ZA is blocking that action. I wonder if I could put the IP address of those time servers in the trusted zone?

Hi!nope, ZA does NOT block it...Its a time server issue... try again and it will work. There are other time servers you can use depending on the location... try others and find the most stable.Cheers,Fax

Uh.... actually, when I go into the "Alerts and Logs" area I see two instances where ZA has blocked an outgoing action by svchost.exe originating with my IP address, and the DNS destinations are "time.nist.gov" and "time-a.nist.gov".
Sure looks like it's blocking the action to me. If not, what is ZA doing?

Yes, but its due to delay in response... this is a know issue of time servers...Just find a server that works for you and stay with it.Fax

I have the same problem with v7.0.337.000.
If I turn the firewall off, either of the servers XP Home allows, time.nist.gov or time.windows.com, work.
I think its a time-out all right, caused by ZA blocking SNTP protocol, or maybe the port, I don't know which, but I'd sure like it fixed.
I'd like to run a time check weekly.

Hi!Nope, its server issue... and behavior changes according to your local conditions... sometime it will connect without ZA and sometimes, if you insist, it will syncronise even with ZA.Just change server to "time-a.nist.gov" and it will syncronise without problems.Cheers,Fax

Nope, not
the usual
server issue!
I found another thread where someone said he got synchronized by using Trusted Zone, so
I tried that.
I got it to work with all three addresses by adding them to my Trusted Zone.
Before each was added, it didn't work; as soon as each was saved in the Trusted Zone, it worked.
I still think that ZA doesn't like the SNTP protocol or the port, but it allows the traffic through the Trusted Zone.
BTW, the sites are the two that came with XP Home and the one which you suggested I add:

time.windows.com

time.nist.gov

time-a.nist.gov
I added the "time-a" site to Windows using regedit to
add a string named 3 with a value of the website name to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Windows\CurrentVersion \DateTime\Servers\.
They all work now.
