Thread: ZoneAlarm 7 stops Firefox opening more than one file at a time.

Default ZoneAlarm 7 stops Firefox opening more than one file at a time.

Since upgrading to ZoneAlarm 7, I find that I can't -using Firefox- just 'click' on a second htm file to open it. Nothing happens at all. I have to CLOSE the original before clicking the next one. Of course, I CAN open a new window or tab and then find the file, but that's a terrible way of doing things.

I'd ASSUMED that the fault lay in the browser, and totally reinstalled the latest version. It worked perfectly - until I rebooted, that is! Then it was back to square one with the same problem. So, I started closing down the startup programs, and found that ZoneAlarm was causing the problem. I totally reinstalled the latest version and the same thing happened. Fine, until I rebooted... Of course I CAN just close ZA to make Firefox work properly, but I'm concerned that I may forget to start up the firewall when I go online!

Has anyone else come across this problem since upgrading to version 7? Can explain why ZoneAlarm should make Firefox behave in this strange way and, more importantly, is there a solution?

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Go into the program list in ZA and delete the Firefox entry. Then start Firefox and try it again.

Many thanks for your suggestion, Hoov, but I'm afraid it made no difference at all. However, the second I close down ZA, Firefox works perfectly...

I've actually gone one step further with fresh installs of both Firefox AND ZoneAlarm. You'd think that THAT would sort out most problems, but no joy.

Apart from being an annoyance, it's really perplexing that nobody else appears to have this problem!

It seems I'll just have to live with it, unless someone out there has an inspired guess....

Are these files online, or local on your own machine?

Firefox is working perfectly as a browser, so there are no problems on OR off-line when navigating links. It's when I'm reading files off-line on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 510m) that I AM, since the latest version of Zone Alarm, having trouble.

If I want to compare two '.htm' pages by clicking on them, only the first one opens. Nothing happens to the second one. As I've said, I CAN open the second page by using the "New Window" or "New Tab" option and then tracking it down, but that really is a pain. The instant I close ZoneAlarm, the old Fox works perfectly. Most peculiar.

Thanks for your interest, Don. It's nice to know that someone gives a Hoover Dam!

    Regards,

    Peter

Is your trusted zone security on medium?

Yes, my trusted zone security IS on medium, so it can't be that, unfortunately!

Incidentally, I uninstalled ZoneAlarm AGAIN last night, using the '\clean' tag on the uninstaller, as recommended on your zonealarm site. Needless to say, I wound up with the same result when I reinstalled it - but it was certainly worth trying.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.....

Reboot to safe mode and reinstall ZA. If it asks select clean install. See if this does the trick.
