    Default questions about zonealarm's basic firewall and advanced firewall

    hey all,
    does any1 know the differences between the basic and advanced firewall? im running vista ultimate 32-bit and im looking for a good firewall and antivirus. for antivirus, im leaning to nod32 or **bleep** 2008. but for firewalls im sure they aren't on par with zonealarm. thus i'd like to stick with a zonealarm firewall, but since zonealarm pro isn't vista compatible(which stinks) my only two viable zonealarm options are zonealarm internet security(advanced firwall) or zonealarm free edition(basic firewall).

    but i'd like to know the differences between the two firewalls.

    if there is a huge difference, i'd just get the internet security suite and disable the antivirus portion and use **bleep** 2008 for antivirus protection. any1 know if there are any issues with **bleep** 2008 and ZA internet security?

    i used the **bleep** firewall and it stinks

    Operating System:Windows Vista Ultimate
    Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

    Default basic firewall and advanced firewall/ new Beta ZA Pro -Vista 12-4-07

    "Sometimes it's a matter of timing"
    <hr>You're in luck, ZA has just introduced a new Beta ZoneAlarm Pro - vista version 7.1.218 as of 12-4-07. Here is a good opportunity for you to try out ZA Pro (just the advanced OS firewall) and your choice of anti-virus. Click here &gt; http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre....html#download
    { shush-h
    - with this beta you can try this out for &quot;free&quot; for about 30-60+ days however long this beta runs ( did I say free, without any $ - shush-h - }

    <hr>Whatever other brand of anti-virus you get, make sure it does not come with any firewall, right!
    <hr>1- have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154
    . Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZA firewall product.
    <hr>2 - did you use any download managers or web accelerators( often used with dial-up) = [these conflict with ZA
    = should not be used]? during ZA install
    <hr>3 - please list other security software -
    ex. - anti-spyware: Spysweeper, SpywareDoctor, CounterSpy, SpyCatcher, Windows Defender,

    etc.= these should be shut-off/ shut-down
    prior to installing
    ZA;
    monitoring/performance software - system mechanics, norton utilties/ backups/ ghosts
    <hr>4 - did you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/ 7 or Firefox or others to download? IE 6/ 7 is preferred. &lt;&lt;&lt; Better results.
    <hr>Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software firewalls at the same time. Completely uninstall one before installing another. Use the vendor's uninstall utility or if not available, use the Windows XP add/remove software tool in the control panel.

    <hr>As for your question of basic ZA firewall
    and ZA OS firewall =(in all paid versions), see - http://www.zonealarm.com/store/conte...comparison.jsp
    click on the left tabs for more info. Some thoughts - the advanced OS firewall treats every program on your pc as a
    seperate 'identity' for which if any 'other' program asks to use - it will either block or put up an alert and ask you for permission = this is good because there are some malware that will try to interject /rewrite / or connect thru other legit programs. There is better customization with ports and expert firewall options with the OS firewall, instead of the basic firewall.
    <hr>I'd say try the 'free' beta
    ZA Pro - Vista, get your av and fly with it.

    odd, why is b i t d e f e n d e r masked as ****bleep**** ? i wasn't cursing or anything in my original post.
    anyways. i've uninstalled all AV and firewall softwares and i plan on going with nod32/B it defender for AV, ZA for firewall, spysweeper and trojanjunter and spybot for antispyware.
    how good is the ZA pro beta for vista? i dotn want something that'll die and hose my laptop lol
