Thread: TiVO Desktop/Server are killed by ZoneAlarm

    Default TiVO Desktop/Server are killed by ZoneAlarm

    I'm running XP sp 2 and TiVO Desktop 2.5.1 (upgraded today to ensure that wasn't the issue)

    I just installed ZoneAlarm today and here is it's version info:

    ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:7.0.462.000

    Driver version:7.0.462.000
    Anti-virus engine version:3
    Anti-virus SDK version:
    Anti-virus signature DAT file version:941729627
    Anti-spyware engine version:

    Even when turning off the firewall completely and disabling every thing I could find, I'm unable to see my TiVO. I've seen other notes indicating that with VISTA that there are some pretty severe issues. Do the same set of issues extend to XP?? I'm still in my trial period thankfully, so I may have to abandon the product if I can't get my existing software to work with it.

    I received a reply from ZoneAlarm that provided the information needed to resolve this issue. Here it is...

    Thank you for contacting ZoneAlarm technical support.

    I understand that your Tivo software will not run when ZoneAlarm is running.

    Please open ZoneAlarm, and then click program control -> main.

    Please set both program control and Smart Defense Advisor to auto.

    Once this is complete, please click program control -> programs, and right- click and remove all programs.
    Note: if you get a message that one or more programs are a system program, please click yes. You are just removing programs from ZoneAlarm?s permission list; you are not removing them from the computer.

    When these programs need to be added to this list again, you should receive a ZoneAlarm alert, or ZoneAlarm should automatically add them.

    Once this is completed, please right-click the ZA icon down by the clock, click shutdown, and then click yes.

    When ZoneAlarm disappears, please restart the computer, and see if this resolves this issue.
