Dear slapnutskits:

Yes, although the installation of ZAPRO should have done that. By default, ZAPRO disables the Windows Firewall.

1- have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZoneAlarm firewall product.
Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software firewalls at the same time. Completely uninstall one before installing another. Use the vendor's uninstall utility or if not available, use the Windows XP add/remove software tool in the control panel.
Just One, Not Two -- Never use two anti-virus products at the same time. Well I'm currently having trouble removing AVG Antivirus - it just wont uninstall!

Do I need to remove the antivirus too? Or just the firewall?

If you chose to install Zone Alarm Security Suite..You can't have 2 software Firewalls or 2 Antivirus programs operating concurrently. Unpredictable events can occur. Even if they are inactive, problems can still occur. Make a choice of whichSecurity Softwareyou want and uninstall the others..

I don't think Windows will let you Uninstall Windows firewall.., Just Turn it off.. (ZAPro is designed to Turn Off Windows Firewall when ZAPro is Installed..)IF ZAPro still does not Open.. Then You have one of two thing happening..1.) a Corrupted Install of ZAPro or 2.) Some other Software Conflicting with ZAPro..---------------------------------------

    Dear slapnutskits:

My manual uninstall method should have worked if the problem was related to ZAPRO. Do the following in order so that I have this straight:

1)Make sure all 3rd-party firewalls are uninstalled, including ZAPRO, and that the Windows Firewall is disabled(OFF). With no firewall active, make sure you are not connected to the Internet.

2)Use the manual uninstallation method I posted earlier to make sure all the pieces of ZAPRO are off your system(the long method).

3)Use another computer to download ZAPRO from their website and save it to a flash memory stick which will enable you to transfer the file to your computer.

4)Before copying it to your PC and installing it, do this first and post it. Click Start, Run, type CMD, then click OK. In the DOS window that opens, type this at the command prompt:

    TASKLIST /SVC

This command returns a list of processes like those that show up in Windows Task Manager. Now right click in the black window, then click the command, Mark. Click on the I in Image Name in the upper left of the table and drag from that spot so that the entire table has a white background. Open Notepad, click Edit menu, then click Paste. Save this file and use it to copy and paste this information into your next post. It will tell us if there is something else on your computer that might be preventing ZAPRO from operating.

    5)Go into your Registry, specifically:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Type the names listed on the left side of the right pane into your next post. This will tell us what programs are autostarting from this location.

6)If there is anything else you can remember when this behavior first started, please add that as well.

7)Post the info from above in your next post. If you have to use your PC to do it, first activate the Windows Firewall as you want some protection before going on the Internet. Once you post the info, disconnect, and await a reply.
