I just installed ZA free version (about midnight ET) late Monday, January 29, 2008.
It says, "The firewall has blocked 0 (inbound) access attempts.15 program(s) secured for Internet access.End quote.
The Windows XP built-in firewall is turned off.The Windows XP security center says that there is a working firewall.
The ISP is Verizon budget DSL service.I am running with the Administrator privilege switched off for security reasons. (a so-called Limited User Account) or unprivileged account.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 with all security patches.AVG anti-virus version 7.5 (free edition)Google desktop search
Hypothesis 1 is that the ISP is running its own firewall which catches intrusion attempts before they get to my computer.
Mozilla Firefox browser version 188.8.131.52 (the latest version)This is a home installation, and I correct to the Intenet directly through the phone line and DSL--i.e., no LAN.
Hypothesis 2 is that ZoneAlarm won't "play nice" with the unprivileged Limited User Account.
Informally, it is my impression that the computer is fairly secure. The common signs of infection (strange popup's, etc.) do not appear.
There was a dreadful crash about a year ago, and I had to re-install the OS.
