    Hi!
I usually never shutdown ZA before installing updates... but its just a matter of taste.
If you are using windows updates and you are not behind a router, shutting down ZA means you are opening your system to internet.

It is very unlikely that something may happen during the upgrade process especially if you kept your system up to date. But you never know... probability is always there... may be 0,00...% infection potential.
Also watch out for ZA pop-up windows asking permission during the install and after the re-boot.

If you are behind a router or you have modem doing NAT then you can safely shutdown ZA and install the update.

    Cheers,

My recomendation before Installing the New MS SP3 for XP..1.) Cleanup and Cleanout the Temp files and Recycle Bin Run the Free ccleaner.exe from http://www.ccleaner.com/download/bui...wnloading-slim2.)The Defrag/Optimize the current XP..3.) do a Complete System Backup or Clone of your Functioning/Stable WinXP setup..(not nessisary, but very helpful just in case the System Crashes durring the Update)http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...message.id=1594.) MS SP3 for XP is reported to be 580MB.. a.) you going to need lots of HDD Free Space to install this Update.. b.) If your on Dial-Up.. it may take 24 hours or more to download with possible Corruption of the Downloaded fileso it may be better to order the Free SP3 CD/DVd from Microsoft.com and pay for the shipping and Handeling..5.) I would Shutdown all un-nessisary Programs, Like Email, Music Players, other Security Programs that may Block or Conflict with the SP3 Install.. this may include Un-Checking "Load ZA on Startup" and Rebooting and Turn Windows Firewall back on while the SP3 is Installing..6.) after the SP3 is Installed and running, you can then re-Start ZoneAlarm..Good Luck..--------------------------------------------------------
