I'm using Zonealarm 7.1.254.000 (Free ver) with Windows Vista. I just encountered an issue where, while watching a movie, the sound began to skip occasionally. I checked my system resources and couldn't see any patterns since it only occurred once every 15-20 seconds. I tried closing many programs, and found that closing BitTorrent stopped the problem. I shrugged it off as an issue with BitTorrent accessing my harddrive, but later when I went to download a file from a website (450megs), I began to see the computer's stuttering on a larger scale (mouse movements were lagged about 1 sec and program response was unbearable). I checked the Resource Monitor and found the CPU usage for VSmon.exe consistently jumping from 20% to 80% to 100% and back. I decided to reboot after advice found online and tried the download again, this time everything went smooth and there were no CPU spikes or stuttering. Before the download caused my computer to slow down, my computer had been up for about 2.5 days. I'm not sure, but it seems over time ZoneAlarm become more and more unstable as a result.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and know of a better fix other than restarting?
