Default Manual Addition of Programs to "Program Control"

To make a frustrating story short, I can't manually add programs to manage access rights.
I clicked the add button, found the program, and double-clicked the .exe file.
    Nothing happens.
    Nada.
    Zilch.
    Zero.
The "Big Goose Egg" for results.
I closed the ZA control panel and rebooted and tried again.
No change--No manual addition; the designated program just doesn't show up on the list.
I changed my settings to be alerted when a program not given rights on the Control list attempted to access the internet, something which is required to receive updates to said program.
    Yup.
    Nothing.
    No alert.
(The program, itself, registers as attempting to contact the update server, the owners of which state everything's fine on their end--no disruption of file update availability).
I'm more of a "computer enthusiast" but certainly "not a geek" and could use some help.
    Many thanks.
(OS = Windows XP Home/ZA version 7.0.408.0; pro?)

to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It sounds like your ZA Database may be corrupted

ZA has incorparated a new way to Reset DataBase files so users don't need to go into Safe mode.

To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make
note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together then

2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Please post back with your progress report..--------------------------------------------------------
    My XP Configuration:
    ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:7.0.473.000

George, thank you for responding, though I'm embarrassed to admit that I forgot to mention one step I'd tried.
I'd looked for quite some time through the various boards and threads before posting; I'd seen the "reset" response elsewhere.
Um... There is no "reset" option listed:
Engage Internet LockStop All Internet ActivityGame ModeSet Debug Level

    HelpAboutBuy ...

    Restore ZoneAlarm Control CenterShutdown ZoneAlarm

    That's all. <sigh>

Thank you for your Feedback..That Reset option may not be in the Old 7.0.408.000 version..Hi!

    Try this:
1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

The above works only with the latest ZA version.
If you do not have the latest version please update to it (Clean install option).---------------------------------------------Here is thwe Old Method that should work for your version..This could be that ZoneALarms Database may have been corrupted somehow, thus affecting the logging and Program Permisions ,you may need to Reset the ZA database,
BUT BE AWARE this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make note of them), but re-establishing the permission settings is a simple process. This will return ZoneAlarm to factory Settings of a New Install..

Reset the database this way (If you can not Delete Files Below, you may have to do this same proccess in SAFE MODE..
    1. Shut down the client from the system tray (Right click ZA icon choose shutdown)
    2. access the c:\windows\internet logs folder
    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files.
    4. Restart Zone Alarm..
Good Luck..Please post back with a progress Report..--------------------------------------------------------

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this issue.
To say that work's been hectic is like saying the sinking of the Titanic was a "mere unfortunate incident."
George, thank you for the suggestions.
I copied your instructions to have available offline and followed each step.
Unfortunately, both the BCKUP.RBD and the IAMDB.RBD file deletions from c:/WINDOWS/INTERNET LOGS folder garnered the same pop-up window message:
"Cannot delete (each file): Access is denied.Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
I just reinstalled under "clean installation," and everything is fine so far.
If it messes up again, I'll retrieve this thread and post the new/recurrent problem.
Thanks again--to all the experts, Geek Jrs., and enthusiasts
who give time, effort, and thought into helping.
    You're much appreciated!
