Well... do you use an external firewall of some-sort that filters and blocks most of the incoming connections or attacks?

If so, then that's the reason you have no logs in your ZA firewall log.

I used to get ~300-500 hits a day from background noise when i plugged directly into the cable box, but now get 1 every 1-2 weeks due to the external router/firewall.

Maybe this started when I hooked up bellsouth DSL ??
Would bellsouth DSL stop ZA from listing firewall log viewer ?

    Dear Ted-integrate
Do you mind telling me which type of DSL modem they provided?
Is it just a basic one w/o a firewall?

It is possible they gave you a NAT firewall router/modem which by itself provides protection and filtering.
AT&T provided my friend with a pretty cool router/firewall when his original one simply stopped working.
Now if you used comcast cable (or any cable internet), they usually provide some basic cable modem that has no firewall and no protection, that is why I used to get TONS of hits.
Concerning the IM security logs, when I used ZA last year on XP SP2, mine never worked too even though I used both AIM and MSN live.
I dont know whether I had to configure something or whatever.
Be patient and hopefully someone else could shine some light on this.
    Have a great weekend.
