Default ZoneAlarm appears to be blocking Windows Update in Vista

When I double click on Windows Update, the screen comes up blank and the cursor "spins" but does nothing.
It cannot be closed or even minimized without using the task manager.
When I brought the computer to the Geek Squad, it worked fine in the store.
Back home, the problem returned.
When I shut off ZoneAlarm, and brought up the Windows Firewall, it worked again.
But it's not working now.
Could this be a ZoneAlarm issue?

Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro

It didn't help. I tried modifying the Trusted settings some time ago.
What is E17?
I tried ZoneAlarm Instant Support, and it recommended refreshing TrueVector Service, but it didn't give instructions for Vista.
While thinking about it, after the problem started, I was able to use Windows Update after I brought it to Geek Squad and plugged it in at the store and after I unplugged the modem.
Both times, it recognized a new network.
Might this be a clue?

That is very Possible that when Geek Squard Plugged your Computer into their Network, your Network and IP/DNS were changes..-------------------------Try this:Rather than to ask a bunch of questions as to your settings, here is an outline that might help.

On the gateway machine, do the following.
Click start -> run, type cmd and click ok.
Type ipconfig /all and press enter.
Find the connection you are using, and make note of all the DNS servers.
Type exit and press enter.

Double-click the ZA icon down by the clock.
Click firewall -> main, and click the advanced button.
Put the check in "this computer is an ICS/NAT gateway" , and click ok.
Click firewall -> zones.

Add each DNS server to the trusted zone. To do this, do the following.
Click the add button, and then click IP address.
Click trusted, put in the IP address, enter a description, and click ok.
When finished adding all addresses, click the apply button.

Next, click program control -> programs. Locate Generic Host Processing.
Under the server column, for trusted, change that to a check.
Don't change server internet to a check, just server trusted.

Vista doesn't have "run" in the start menu.
How do I get it?

You did not indicate what Brand computer you have, But Vista Does have the Run command Option.., you just have to look in the Right place,I have Three Computers, two with Vista Ultimate 32-Bit on High Performance HP Pavilion computers, and Vista Home Premium 32-Bit on mt Compaq Presaio Computer..1.) The two HP Vista Computers disply the Run command just above the Start Command, when you click the Start button..2.) my Compaq Vista did not display the Run option on the Start Menu, until I changed Start Menu Display back to the "CLASIC View", the the Run Option displayed on the start Menu..---------------------------------------

I had no luck.I'd just like to clarify that Windows Update only worked after it was plugged into a new network.

A little update:The fix was tried.
When I restarted the computer, it didn't work.
After shutting it down and coming back an hour later, Windows Update works.
It's faked me out before, so we'll call the problem remedied for now.
I'll let you know when it acts up again.

Don't if it is relevant, but I had the same problem in XP SP3, ZA pro 8.0.015: turned off ZA cookie
control and Windows update site worked normally.
