    Hi!
slow performance has been an issue user post and re-post since version 6.
Version 8 run faster in my XP than version 7. I must be lucky.

I have seen many different explanations, from NERO applications to Nvidia control center, nvdia nTunes, Spysweeper shields, Spyware doctor, AMD machines, not updated drivers, Catalyst Control Center, microsoft desktop search, low memory, and so on...

    1. Disable unnecessary services running at startup;
    2. Using msconfig to isolate the application/services creating problems to ZA
    3. Check system logs and see if there is any error or services delaying the boot or hanging

    On point 1, see here:
    http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

On point 2 try the following:
    1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
    Monitor, and click OK.
    8.) Restart your computer

    How does it work?

NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

On point 3 do the following:
Go to start --> Run --> type eventvwr --> double click on "system" and review the log.
Any services taking a long time to start? (see timing between one and another service)

    Hope this helps,
    Fax

Congratulations on having a smooth running system Fax and I appreciate your optimism on this but the fact is that folks are having problems with this release.
Whether those problems are unique or not, it doesn't excuse CheckPoint for not doing basic compatibility testing (presuming that is the problem and not some more basic flaw) with commonly used drivers, OS components and utilities.

I don't have anything excessive running on this machine at all - basic support for the OS, graphics card, motherboard.
Oh, and this mammoth, resource-hogging program called Zone Alarm.

When you run folks thru the recipe below, also Fax, you need to tell them two things please
    - one is that identifying a conflicting service, startup program, etc can take a lot of time (for some folks less time than going down to the store and buying another security product...)

This is in part because of important point #2 - when you slim down to everything but vsmon, the computer will generally run fine at least for a short time
    - the 50% CPU doesnt kick in right away, at least for me.
Took me anywhere from 1 min to 20 min of routine use (using MS Office, internet explorer, whatever) to see the dang thing pop up to 50% again, and
    then it stayed there.
No more version 8 for a while for me - like other users I've rolled back to 7-something and doing OK.

This one is CheckPoint's problem, not ours.

    Hi!
just giving my advise as user to other users.
Don't speak on behalf of ZA or any other company.

The best is to address ZA directly by reporting the issue to them:

    ZA technical support: www.zonealarm.com/tsform
    ZA customer support: www.zonealarm.com/csform

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

I've had exactly same problem for days by
    installing
ZASS 8.0.20.000. (ZASS 7.0.483.000 was working fine before with
    no problems)

    On daily basis vsmon.exe
    goes to 95-99 %
    of CPU and rendering
the PC unusable. Reading various threads in ths forum, I did all of the following:a) Clean uninstallb) Reset ZASSc) Monitored and shutdown PC processes one by one
    But the problem still existed!
I may be wrong, but when I added "Truevector Service" (aka VSMON.exe)
as an exception to my windows firewall setting (even though it was disabled) I was fine for a day or so, so have a hunch it may be related
    to this and ports acess.
    Anyway, until checkpoint come
    investigate
and fix this problem in both version 8 -
    8.0.015.000 and
    8.0.020.000 , I've reverted back to
    v7.0.483.000
