Default Zone Alarm Security Suite freeze my computer

I've been running zone alarm for about 6 months. Just yesterday it started freezing the computer
whater I do, a ZOne Alarm security alert pops up, but if I try to Allow it it freezes the computer.
A security alert even pops up when I try to change the options on zone alarm (for example I want to
turn it off a booting so I could uninstall it cleanly, and then reinstall it).

WHat to I do??

Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

HI!have you tried to reset the ZA settings?1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after rebootCheers.Fax

I posted a message about hard freeze at http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...ssage.id=52055
Though I have Zone Alarm Pro and just upgraded from 7.0.483 to 8.0.015.

Don't know if they are related.

Hi Fax

I tried what you suggested, but as soon as I control-shift right clicked the mouse on the ZA icon
a ZA security alert appeared (it says ZoneAlarm client is trying to communicate with C:WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe by opening its process) and as before when I try to allow it freezes.

Any other suggestios?

Thanks,

Thanks, this worked. But I have no more anti-virus and only the windows firewall.
I wonder if I should reinstall ZA, or go with another program.

Beginner's feedback (hoping you will find something valuable within)

Syndrome: vsmon.exe using all cpu resources
(my) solution: Re-install the whole product; in my case worked

ZA Security Suite v 8.0.020.000
XP Pro SP2 / ThinkPad z60m, 2GB

History
- ZA Security Suite 70.483.000 invited to upgrade the product to v 8.0.020.000
- install ZA Security Suite v 8.0.020.000
- vsmon.exe who used up to 99% of cpu resources constantly, w/o any apparent reason

- uninstall ZA Security Suite v 8.0.020.000 (thinking to go to the previous version)
- cleaning with Registry Mechanic 7 and Diskeeper 2008
- zaSuiteSetup_70_483_000_en.exe does not launch (Crash with message "Please inform Microsoft&quot
- by mistake installing few selected security update from XP
- cleaning with Registry Mechanic 7 and Diskeeper 2008
- hopeless and in need to access internet, reinstalling ZA Security Suite v 8.0.020.000
- HAPPY END: now vsmon.exe does not make troubles anymore; thank you, GOD

I am having similar problems. I have noticed extremely long shutdown or startup problems (once completely hung in Windows shutdown). Also, when I try to select a file in Windows Explorer to delete, move, look at properties, vsmons's scanning processes drives wild disk accessing that locks up any other action on the computer. I filed a tech report. I am in a quandry because I run Thunderbird as a mail client, and versions 7.483 that is otherwise stable has a problem where it deletes the entire inbox without warning when an incoming virus is detected. This experience with ZoneAlarm is getting very painful.
