    Hi,
I imaging that you are using ZAISS 8.0.015.000 or 8.0.020.000 software. There are problem with both of the above software version with XP. You can report your problem to support at the following address.

    http://www.zonealarm.com/store/conte...us&ctry=GB =en&lid=cshome_form

The present advise being given is to revert back to ZASS 7.0.483.00 and wait to be advised which is available at

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...483_000_en.exe

You will need to do a clean install of the version 7.0.483.000 software. The directions are as below:

    Now follow the steps below:

    - If you wish to keep your settings, create a Backup from Overview -
    > Preferences before starting, and then Restore afterwards.

01.) Right click the ZA icon (if present) and choose shut down
02.) Click on Start -> Programs -> ZoneAlarm
03.) RIGHT-click on Uninstall ZoneAlarm Security, then select Properties
04.) Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be
    different on your system):

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe"

    Change it to:

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

(add a space and then the /clean)

05.) Click Apply, then OK to save the new command line.
06.) Click on Start -> Programs -> ZoneAlarm -> Uninstall ZoneAlarm
    Security
07.) Click Uninstall to run the uninstaller, and choose OK or yes to any
    security alerts that pop up.
08.) Say Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files.
    09.) Reboot when prompted
10.) Go to Start -> My Computer (XP) or open My Computer from your
    desktop.
11.) Double click the C: drive
12.) Double click the Windows folder (it may also be called WINNT in some
    cases)
13.) Locate and delete the Internet Logs folder here
14.) Double click the System32 folder
15.) Locate and delete the Zone Labs folder here (if present)
    16.) Close this window
17.) Clear your Windows temporary file cache by following the steps below:

    - Go to Start -> Run
    - Type %temp% and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them
    - Empty your recycle bin

18.) Reinstall using the file you downloaded earlier

By the way if you are using Microsoft Windows Defender you can disable it from with Windows Defenders tools/options which removes the slow closedown problem. This works on my XP Home computer. It clashes with ZAISS 8.0 on closedown of the computer.

I hope that this helps you.

    MrAce,

I am experiencing the exact same problems as you are mentioning with my Windows XP (ZA-ISS Version 8.0)

The only way to allow it to shut down normally is to shut-down the program prior to actually shutting down the computer.

It's quite annoying as I can imagine.

Please revert back to the ZA-ISS Version 7.0 and wait a few more weeks until all of the bugs are out.

I am having exactly the same problem since I have upgraded to version 8 and I too am on XP Pro Platform. Came here to pose the exact same problem and then I saw your thread.

I am now not shutting down but hibernating. When I want to boot I do so from the hibernation start-up screen by pressing F8.
