Default vsmon hangs system then I get windows memory fault error

After my machine is up for a little while, I'll go to a web page and the whole computer will freeze for a couple minutes. Then I'll get a Windows alert box saying vsmon.exe generated a fatal exception.

    The error message is:

    vsmon.exe - Application Error
The exception unkonwn software exception (hex code) occurred in the application at location (memory address)

Can anyone tell me what this is and how to deal with it?

I have to say I'm really tired of maintaining ZA. I've had a lot of problems with it and have a lot better things to be doing. ZA should pay me my hourly consulting rate!

    Operating System:
    Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:
    8.0
    Product Name:
    ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

It's recommended that people experiencing problems with version 8 go back to 7.0.483.0.
    Download ZASS 7.0.483.0 from here:
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...483_000_en.exe
To unininstall version 8 and install version 7.0.483.0, follow these steps:
    1) Overview > Preferences, uncheck "Load ZoneAlarm ... at startup"

    2) Reboot

    3) Install ZoneAlarm 7.0.483.0; when prompted, choose Clean Install

    4)
After ZA is installed: Anti-virus / Anti-Spyware > Main tab > Update Now

Should I uninstall the 8 version first?

Sorry for the delay. When doing the steps this way, there is no need for an uninstall. During the install, ZoneAlarm detects that another version is installed and asks if you want to do a clean or an upgrade install. Reply "clean" and it will do a clean uninstall first, then continue with the installation.
